And yet, since Jollay, QD and Sleeper were banned, new members have joined, discussion is more active, and we are on-topic with less bickering and negativity? I think any entertainment they provided is out-weighed by the benefits of not having them around.
I take umbrage - the negativity was mostly on the politics board - long since dead. My posts have been entertaining - bawdy at times - but mostly entertaining or just chock full of peerless logic and reason. But going forward I will be as sunshiney as Mary Poppins

Was a bit surprised to see ex-assistant athletic director defending DP on the Twitter. Makes it sound like Mason was all set for another FF run.

Delusional. DP got gifted Kolek from an ex player who was his hs coach. He didn't think Miller was good enough so he redshirted him, only to remove it mid season. Oduro was a big cookie after yr 2. In many ways, DP is lucky to have Kolek and Miller attached to him.

For all his faults, and the fact that he couldn’t keep up with recruiting the “A-10 level” recruits DP did find some under recruited gems. Yes he also had plenty of misses.
I’m still glad we cut ties with him when we did, he put a product on the court that was frustrating to watch.

I wish him the best. Was a good guy who probably wouldn't have taken the job if he'd known what he was stepping in to.

While the reasons for departure are different (firing vs. leaving for another school), KE and DP had very similar ends to their Mason tenures. 2021, despite a flurry of postponed and canceled games, we ended the season winning 4 straight (including @ vcu) before winning our first tournament game and then getting curb-stomped in the quarterfinals. Frustrating that you could argue in both cases the coach's system was finally taking hold only to see us have to start completely over. I say this realizing many of you are confident DP could not coach at an A-10 level, but the egos he had to manage probably had a lot to do with his downfall. The final 2 minutes of that beatdown by Davidson were embarrassing for a coach to have to deal with.

Happy for DP. Never had a problem with him as a person, and I think he really did do everything he could to make it all work. He definitely recruited some good players while here; you can't deny that Oduro, Kolek, Oduro, and Miller are great talents that could have made this program hum. But for whatever reason he just couldn't make it all gel and work. I think he'll do well at Holy Cross.

Holy Cross was 10-22 overall and 7-11 in conference last season. It will be interesting to see how DP does and if he can turn it around.

For sure. I suspect he will do a lot of what he did at Mason. Instill his way of “practice” and stabilize the program at a minimum. Just a matter of what he recruits being enough and to coach them up. Considering the Patriot League talent levels, he should be able to do that within a few years.

Nothing personal and I wish him well as many folks here do. Nothing wrong with being successful at a level that is more appropriate for his abilities.

One good thing to come from all of the ineptitude, mediocrity, and turmoil over the past many years is that I now follow college basketball on a much broader scale. I used to care just about GMU. I have to admit it is fun to track former players and coaches all the while hating vcu.
