What are Mason's financial obligation if Hewitt doesn't show up to work or just goes missing?

Is that covered in the contract?

Generally, from West to East. ;)

I am being told that they are going to keep Hewitt because they can't find anyone qualified that is more diverse than him.

I've never understood the "cannot afford" excuse. What's the loss of revenue for another year of attendance dropping? Lack of national exposure? Donations torpedoing? You made the move to the A10 to be in the "big boys" league. Firing a bad coach because he's not getting it done before the contract runs out is part of being in that club. Unless you're DePaul.

I have to think this decision process will be kept fairly quiet, much like the A-10 move. I suspect we'll all hear rumblings once the season officially concludes.

About 300,000 year over year based on the drop in attendance.

Me too. Because if you don't fire him, you have to extend him a year, right?
I don't think you want him coaching as a lame duck without a contract for 2016-2017. So if we all agree that lame duck coaching isn't an option, then we have to have the $$ to either extend him or buy him out.

Not to mention the fact that they were able to get rid of Paul I after 4 years on the 90's. That turned out pretty good up until 2011. I do understand that he was cheaper, but how's it going to look if GMU can't get rid of Paul II after 4 years?

He was cheaper, but then we didn't raise $1 million in donations in the 90s either.

I wouldn't say it is almost out; that may take a little time...

Hopefully, though, the AD has identified where the gas is coming from that is continually being dumped on it and makes it stop.

It is clear to defeat fire, we will have to utilize it's awesome power.

We couldn't afford it last year, no doubt. This year? I believe we can, considering we'll take another attendance/donation hit if not.

Increase the salary on the second year for the new coach.

We keep assuming that we have to pay Hewitt his entire buyout in a lump sum.

This is most likely not the case. Given the way buyouts are frequently structured these days, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Hewitt agreed to take it in 4-5 installments.

He doesn't need the money. Taking it in smaller chunks helps him for tax purposes. And it obviously helps us if we can pay him off $150K at a time.

Regardless, he is toast. Done deal.

Plus, I read this morning that he's still getting GT money until 2016. Maybe he might want to wait for our buyout $$$ until his GT buyout is done... must be nice.
