Giving Day 2021

I threw a couple bucks in when KE got hired and I'm pretty sure I used the giving day link, but on the confirmation email it doesn't really say anything about giving day, so I don't know if it counted towards today's goals or not. I might just throw another small donation just to make sure the donor numbers get added... even though I said I would never donate to the program ever again until I got some sort or apology from Dawn Hicks... which never happened.

So, gotta ask. Who is Dawn Hicks, and what did she do (or not do)?

The Mason wrestling alum have a lot of pride in the program and most who leave give back. It's actually pretty cool to see and they always kick a** at these things because they know their sport is the easiest to cut if cuts are ever going to happen.

I don't look at it as a negative as much as I say good for those guys... I mean, how many of our former basketball players do you think give back? My guess is nowhere near the percentage of wrestlers.

Men's basketball has never won the athlete-alumni giving challenge.

This is a quote from last year's results: This year’s challenge, which ended on June 30, brought in $187,696 in gifts from alumni-athletes. An additional $38,232 was raised during the Final Blitz Week, which welcomed gifts from friends of Mason Athletics as well (not included in the total of 394 donors). Wrestling also dominated the Blitz Week competition, leading the way with 148 donors, the largest single gift ($25,000), and the most improved percentage during Blitz Week (+18.1%).

The number of donors as a "goal" also goes up as each is achieved as well. I think the initial goal for every sport is like 10 or 20 donors. Regardless, basketball is almost at 12k today which is a nice number in addition to the other money that has come in the last few weeks.

theres a donor wall but most folks made anonymous donations. And it only goes back so much in number of donors.

I am curious. How are those counted who give all year long? I donate to the Patriot Club in 4 installment payments. Does that play into the totals? If I give more, do they figure out you are already a donor and add your new gift to your previous gifts? It's very confusing for those of us who do this already.

Those numbers are counted in year-end totals, this is merely the Giving Day campaign.

Yes, it seems that if you don't give on giving day you're not recognized/appreciated/whatever as much. As I said earlier, I gave a chunk the day KE was announced. Seems like those gifts are sort of overlooked.

The Patriot Club folks are always very thankful for any and all donations. They may have a bit of a backlog of thank yous because of the last few weeks, but just because you gave outside of giving day doesn't mean you aren't appreciated.

Yeah, I know that, and I didn't mean to make it sound as bad as it came out, it's just that it SEEMS like if you're not counted as one of the hundreds who gave to GD, shame on you. But yeah, I'm good.
Just a get it off my chest rant.
