The loser of this game takes a giant leap in the quest to finish in the bottom 4 and have a PIG. Earlier in the year I would have penciled this one in as a win. Now I'm not so sure.

Prediction: A crowd of 1,500 disinterested fans watches UMass win 65 - 56. Heads explode in the post game presser when DP talks about what a great team UMass is. Brad Edwards gives DP a lifetime extension ending all debate on the boards about what will happen next year.

If you're upset about the state of Mason right now, wait until you see UMass. Lots of talent with no direction whatsoever. They lost to GW at home by 24 yesterday in a "wheels are falling off" type of game.

They have talent but are wildly undisciplined on defense. We should get a bunch of easy looks. Tre Mitchell is a bad matchup in the middle, but he doesn't look like he's at the point where he can take over and win on his own. Limit the other options and we'll be fine.

If UMass comes in here and beats us, we're way worse off than anyone thought.

In all seriousness, if Hartwell has Bronchitis, I can't imagine he'll be ready to go by 1/22 and will miss this game as well, which means our rotations are going to be jacked again, especially if Calixte only plays like 10 minutes.

I mean, think about this, with Kier and Boyd both out for the season, Dady out indeterminately, and Hartwell sick, we literally have like 3.5 guards (Miller kind of a tweener and JDS, uh, yeah...), so unless XJ, Greene, and Miller can all play 40 minutes, our offense is going to take a nose dive when any of them have to leave the floor.

Add to that UMass has a really talented frontcourt player in Tre Mitchell, and this might be the watershed moment of the season. I see it as a 50/50 game, at this point.
