LaSalle is 10 - 5 overall. 1 - 2 in A10 play thus far.

Roster - https://goexplorers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster
Schedule - https://goexplorers.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule/2019-20
Stats - https://goexplorers.com/documents/2020/1/8/Season_Reports_1_.pdf

Earlier in the year I had this penciled in as a win. Now, not so much hope.

LaSalle 67 - Mason 56

In the post game press conference DP will ask the Mason fan base to be patient and judge him on the 2024 and 2025 seasons. He will also announce that he has identified and is actively recruiting a future A10 player of the year, a 5 foot 2 power forward from Vietnam, who will put us back on the national map.

Another game vs a middle of the road A-10 team that we need to beat. I like Ashley Howard and am impressed with what he has done with worse resources, shittier school and everything else in philly. Wish we had a guy like him

How much longer is Paulsen's contract?

I think next year is his last? He could have two more years on his contract. It was originally 5 years, but they extended it at least once (after year two), possibly twice.

Paulsen has 2 more years after this year. So essentially it breaks down to this:

You either extend him after this year (and assuming they go 9-9 or better, you probably give him an extra 1-2 years if you’re Mason), or you wait until next year and evaluate what to do. They aren’t going to lame duck him so a decision is going to come sooner than later.

Other caveats also include a new president coming in within 6 months, and potentially a new AD. If Brad leaves (which with a new President, sometimes that stuff happens), Dave will have the show me year unless Brad does the extension this year prior to a new PResident and/or him leaving.

So in short I don’t think anyone knows if Dave is going to be around much longer, but as long as Brad is around I suspect he will get a little bit more time assuming wheels dont fall completely off.

his buyout owed is 50% of the total dollar amount per year. if he were removed after this season, it would essentially be the same buyout we gave Hewitt.

Can I ask why Souh Carolina or any other P5 program would want BE as an AD so badly? What accomplishments has he had to warrant such rabid interest from any school much less a P5 school. If they just want him beacuse he's an alum and a former NFL player, I guess I get it. But it would seem to me that they would want someone with a consistent, impressive track record that resulted into winning programs for the money sports like Basketball and Football.

Not putting BE down, I honestly want to know.

I wonder why people think Brad's definitely giving him more time. The contract extensions in the first two years were clear indicators that the clock isn't ticking yet. Those stopped happening... clock is ticking now.

Brad's never getting that SEC job you know he craves unless he can win in basketball at a basketball-first school. Gotta think he's approaching his tipping point as well.

He probably gets a year 6, but next year's team will be pretty senior-laden (AJ, Calixte, Mar, Greene) and that's got to be the show me or get off the pot year at this point ("we got to get old," as Paulsen said after last season's humiliating loss to Bona).

Also, can we stop trying to play a small ball lineup, but not a small ball offensive style? I mean, yeah, our centers aren't good, but our small ball lineup is much, much worse.

Also, also, its' really sad to see Kier going down the way Otis went down his senior year.

After just 2 conference games this season, IMO it's too early to start a similar thread for Coach Paulsen - http://www.masonhoops.com/board/threads/countdown-to-the-end-of-the-coach-hewitt-era.788/.

before my time on this message board.... hilarious that the "Paulsen rocks" brigade were the first two on the thread saying "Guess what Paul, everyone has injuries, everyone has transfers, everyone has tough losses, everyone has chemistry and effort problems, everyone has holes in their roster, everyone has shooting slumps.

Own it and fix it, or get out. Responsibility starts at the top." Jesus this is rich. You can't have it both ways folks. These certain fans are either dumb or racist and forgot that this message board has archives

I don’t know if Brad’s is going to give Dave more time or not. I don’t think anything is definite but I suspect the patience has to be wearing thin even if he is on board with the type of recruits Dave is pulling now versus before. But I do think that there is a new President coming in and sometimes with a new President they want their own AD. Brad is signed through 2023 and I doubt Mason is going to get rid of him, he’d probably leave on his own accord, wherever that might be. I also dont know if 9-9 gets Dave an extra year or what the bar is for extra time. Someone suggested that 9-9 would be enough.

Bottom line is that Brad (assuming he’s around this year and next year) is going to have to make a decision by the end of next year. If Brad leaves this year, a new AD comes in next year, Dave essentially gets the show me year with a new boss.

I don’t know who would want Brad and if it would be a P5 or USC or whomever. I do think he has a track record with fundraising but otherwise I don’t really know.

Come on man, you know this is not an apples to apples comparison.

Hewitt took a quality mid-major program and destroyed it. The trend line was down from Day 1 and had nothing to do with stepping up in competition by going to the A-10. He did an abysmal job and deserved to get fired.

The trend line has been slowly moving upward — or at worst holding steady — through Paulsen’s first 4 years. Not as fast or impactful as anybody would like, but the general sense seems to be we’re plugging along in the right direction.

Not defending last night’s performance (or the last 3 games) by any means. We certainly will revisit this topic if that type of listless, sloppy play becomes a trend and not an exception.

Throwing out accusations of racism is unwarranted, though, and frankly disgusting.

La Salle game is a big game for mason. I don't see us dropping games against La Salle and GW but taking one leaves 1-3 against Richmond.
They shoot low 30% from 3pt and are bad from the FT line, the TO to assist ratio isn't the best and they are pretty average at rebounding. On paper, this looks like a game Mason should win, but the last 3 games have been bad for confidence. I think this one bites us, but we get back on track against GW.

If you read the article from the SC newspaper a few weeks ago, it seems that South Carolina really wants him. Obviously, he's an alum. They think he's smart, well-connected, and will know how to pick a football coach (for when they come to their senses and fire Muschamp.). I highly doubt whether he gets that job is contingent on showing basketball success at a mid-major.
