Game Thread: Mason (10-1) vs. UMBC (6-7), Saturday, Dec. 21st, 4:00 PM

Mar's regression is baffling. Looks like he's never played basketball before. Wonder how much the injury factors in.
You know, I've given him a ton of carp here before, but I think this is a tough matchup for him. This is a bigger, stronger guy, who wants to be bully, and Mar's just not big enough to deal with him.

I was more referring to the decision making. He's dribbling out of control at double teams, not boxing out, etc. He even took a 3 that wasn't anywhere near the rim. I want the best for him because the guy who dropped 25 on the road at vcu would be a huge asset, but there's just gotta be something going on we don't know. Refuse to believe he just got bad at basketball.

Good start to the second half. Umbc can’t seem to get in rhythm and Mason is a step quicker.

I like what I’m seeing. Offense looks smooth and umbc looks out of rhythm on offense completely for the most part. Greene just took the ball from one of their guys and then got fouled.

Mason struggles in the first half, goes to half with a 2 point lead. We all grumble and say 10-1 was not really anything and that Mason will go 7-11 in conference and finish 11th.

Mason eventually pulls away in the second half with a 15-2 run and looks competent. Some of us celebrate, some of us say its weak and terrible competition for G-Mas.

Mason 68
UMBC 56

wasn’t far off, mason won 67-53 haha

Xavier @ TCU tomorrow on ESPN. Good preview for next game. XU is the other team I have season tix for but didn’t think to fly out for both games back to back.

Really liked our balanced scoring, especially with Kier out. Nobody tried to do too much to fill the void, which made us much tougher to defend. I also love the smaller lineup with Harwell, Johnson, Greene, Miller and AJ. It's amazing how much more motion we have on offense with two point guards on the floor. Their big fella gave us fits, but I will gladly give up some points in the paint rather than having them launch a bunch of 3s like they wanted to.

Of anyone on the team, I enjoy Miller's game the most. There's just absolutely no BS to his game. He doesn't do anything fancy, he doesn't beat you with overwhelming athleticism, he's just super fundamentally sound and well-rounded and makes smart basketball plays.

He plays like a kid who grew up in Indiana or something.

It's just smooth play after smooth play after smooth play.

Miller is a solid player quietly shooting 48% from 3. I’d love to see him take more if he can continue that percentage. That could be a game changer.

Everything he does is quiet. He's completely unflashy, but at the end of the game you look up and he's gone for like 15 and 5 on 60% from the floor and 50% from 3.

Guys like that are KILLERS because they can be super productive without the coach having to draw a ton of stuff up for them.
