If its not Copes, its someone else with some type of an injury. One-on-One style basketball must be hard on the body.

For a student-athlete to receive a Medical Hardship Waiver per Bylaw 14.2.4, the following four conditions must be met:
  • The student-athlete may not have participated in more than two contests or dates of competition or 20 percent of the team's completed contests/dates of competition.
  • The injury or illness must occur prior to the completion of the first half of the season.
  • The injury or illness does not have to occur during practice/competition, but it must be incapacitating.
  • Appropriate medical documentation must exist and be provided
Mason just played game #6 (and Lockett did not play) so if he doesn't play again, he'd be under the 20%. Redshirt granted.

For future reference, the medical hardship waiver rule has been amended. It's now no more than 3 contests or dates of competition or 30% of the scheduled games (whichever number is greater).

He can request a medical hardship waiver (to restore his freshman year of eligibility) if he does not play more than 4 additional games and has an incapacitating injury.

In some ways having both Lockett and Mayimba unavailable is a good thing in that Hewitt seems to do better with his rotations when he has fewer players at his disposal, but in another it really, really sucks because we have two fewer wing players on a team that is stacked in the frontcourt, but woefully thin in the backcourt.

Here is hoping that Lockett makes a full recovery, Mayimba is cleared by the NCAA and they both decide to stay after Hewitt is fired. The next coach will need them both.
