I hope when Royal comes back he can give more than what Jenkins has so far.

I was thinking along the similar lines last night - that Royal may have lucked out by getting the Coach capable of resurrecting his career and on a team that has the available minutes for him to earn. If he's able to get back to what made him a Top 100 recruit and averaging 5 points as a freshman, he might still have a career playing professionally overseas.

GIVING DAY 2023
This is the #1 takeaway for our newly optimistic fan base... UVA beat us, and beat us soundly. But at least we didn't beat ourselves. Progress.

Exactly. I didn't see dribbling off the leg. I didn't see poor shot selection (although well defended shots and barely any second chance opportunities), I saw a gameplan and I didn't see random confused faces. To do that against a very very good UVA team that is supposed to contend for a national title and considering where Mason is in a rebuild, is fantastic. All 5 starters were in double figures for points too, not bad.

Huge win for the program to beat 2 BCS schools and hang tough against UVA. I no longer watch games expecting to cringe repeatedly

First time in a long time I was thinking the other team beat us because they were that good and not because we were a circus sideshow on the court.

Not usually one for "moral" victories, but considering how bad it has been, I think it is worthy to consider.

I'm jumping all the way to the end of this thread, so apologies if I am repeating everyone else:
- they are a very good defensive team and we still shot over 44%. didn't think we'd shoot that high. but...
-they are very efficient on offensive and we didn't play well on D. they shot 57%. did not play over screens well and left some wide open 3s
-we had 2 more offensive rebounds than they did (9 to 7); again, given their D, I didn't think we'd out rebound them on the offensive glass
-watching Grayer and Livingston gives me real hope for the future. those kids can play.
-need to get better from the line
-while we got to play Ole Miss, OSU and UVA in this tourney, UVA ended up with Bradley, Long Beach St and us. Probably not the three games they were hoping to get.

All in all, we didn't embarrass ourselves. UVA is a top 10 team and clearly better than us. Great weekend and hopefully we see the same good things on Wed and Sat

Interestingly, Coach Paulsen's quote is not in my print edition.

Yeah--I had the same reaction reading the print edition. I figured it was because of the late evening finish of the game, but clearly the Post edited the AP article down for space reasons. I do look for the quotes, especially if I've already seen the game--I really like the post game extra on gomason where they typically have the entire postgame presser for home games. It would be nice if we could get that for the away games as well.

Like many have said, the low turnover number against an excellent defense was a GREAT sign. Even though was lost by a fair margin, we looked like we absolutely belonged on the same court as them. It was one of those nights where it seemed like every shot UVA took was falling. Anything within 15 feet was automatic for them. The game is easy when shots are falling.

This was also my first time not listening to a radio broadcast and actually watching this team. Otis is a PLAYER. Loved some of the passes he was making, even if they didn't pan out. Moore is also really impressive even though he looks like he is throwing a shot put when shooting free throws.

I cringe every time Moore goes to the line. Not sure what his percentage is, but that has to be one of the ugliest shooting motions I've ever seen...

His career FT percentage is 76.7 percent, but it's 56.3 percent so far this season.

I don't remember it quite being so ugly last year. I wonder if the staff has been working on fixing his shooting motion and he's just adopted this as a "just get into the bucket" approach?
