Good lord, you’d have to be a really good team to win that game at UMD, go on the road to a rival that opens a new arena on short rest and not struggle. Shockingly, we’re not there yet. Some people are out of their ever loving mind thinking we’d just coast in this game…WTF, do people expect? 1970s UCLA? Coach L’s teams lost these games 9 times out of 10.

Well tonight was hauntingly familiar (see DP). We have a great starting 5 but when 3 of them don't show up we have zero chance of winning. We were off from the start and never got our sh&t together. I'm disappointed but not necessarily surprised. The letdown after Maryland, that so many here predicted, did in fact occur. It will be interesting to see how the team responds. We looked tired.

We all know this Lawdog. You just can’t lose to JMU. Can’t allow it to happen no matter how tired you are.

Did someone say we should not struggle?

1. JMU is better than I thought.
2. We played terribly and still only lost by 3
3. A couple of unfortunate bounces tonight.
4. We learned that we need to make teams pay for doubling Oduro all game … and I’m pretty sure we will.

Call me crazy but I am not discouraged at all by tonights outcome. Hard fought defensive, entertaining contest. This team will just get better with each game as they learn the nuances of playing with each other. This will be a completely different team by seasons end.

Any word on Ronald Polite? Hartwell is killing us right now, we need an alternative.

It absolutley does. We had a chance to get some votes to be in the top 25 if we handled business against JMU. We should not be losing to a CAA team projected to be 4th in the conference.

No. No. No.

There is always complete enjoyment when you beat assh*le programs like a vcu or umd regardless of what happens after....
Joy might not have been the best word. But it certainly takes a bit of the luster off.

Hartwell was terrible and Oduro played below what we’ve come to expect, but blaming those two for this loss is deflecting the obvious. We’ve become spoiled by Schwartz and Cooper, who shot a combined 3-18 from the floor.

The fact that this game was even close is a testament to Gaines, who was really the only player who showed up for the entire contest tonight (XJ had a nice first half but then disappeared offensively). Henry had the great dunk but then gave up the 3 — why was he even covering a wing? —and then turned the ball over in the post.

All that said, I agree moving forward that we really need to upgrade at point guard. Hartwell is a liability when he’s turning the ball over on offense and not knocking down open looks like tonight, and XJ struggled against Maryland’s length and athleticism. I’m not sure if Polite and Gray are the solution, so we might have to wait until next year to solidify that position.

Kim is a girl's name. Mason deserves the the strong leadership of a man named after a giant lumberjack who once took a team all the way to the Final Four.

And they should give him a guaranteed annually renewing contract.

I think they ARE tired. KE has been riding the starters hard … Coop, Oduro and Schwartz all had zero pop tonight and we shouldn’t have even been in the game with all three of them MIA

This this and all this.

I’ve been analyzing the box scores and the rotation has been very short. It’s been the starters 30 mins and usually hartwell 20-25.

As much as it sucks to lose to JMU, every program has a tough one tonight. Mason was a step slow, bobbled the ball, looked indecisive and JMU took advantage. I haven’t looked at tonight’s box score yet but when you turn the ball over , don’t shoot well, and generally play bad basketball you can’t win too many games.

Now the big thing is how does this team respond with 3 games out west with a few day layoff. I hope they can take 2 out of 3, but it’s not going to be easy.

Tiredness?? We are 4 games into the season and these kids are capable of playing multiple games in a single weekend. It is unacceptable to ever lose to JMU period.

Other than the one play at Maryland where he dove on the loose ball and got it ahead to Ticket for the dunk, Jamal has given us almost nothing the last few games. I know he’s a senior but give his minutes to one of the kids for now and see if they can’t provide a spark. I doubt they can do any worse.

Mason is really missing Polite right now. Not sure what Grays status is at the moment, but he could be a little banged up as well. I think Frazier might be as well but no idea with him.
