Thinking about whether to pay the A-10 the $40 to watch Mason this year. I likely will, but never had to think about it this hard. I mean last year, I was all giddy w/ anticipation due to the CIT run. Hewitt's left no doubt we suck this year - don't see another win until the mighty Catawba Indians. What a joke.
Just don't see it happening. That is so rare unless there's a crime, alcohol, abusive towards players, something. This guy is clean as a whistle and won't be fired for performance reasons til the end of the season.

Hewitt needs to make some move to show that he is trying. I think an absolute must is to change up some assistant coaches. This would at least show some acknowledgement that coaching is an issue.
I am willing to bet that if we don't turn things around by conference play Brad Edwards will make his first major statement of his time at Mason by dismissing Hewitt. It will set the tone for all teams about the expectations that the University should have for all of it's programs. If he doesn't I will lose faith in him too.
I'll take that bet.
I think Edwards makes a stronger statement by giving him enough time and then firing after he can't turn it around. At this point you could argue straight-faced he's replacing his top two scorers and a front court starter so takes time to gel as a squad.
Ah. I was not aware of that (or was aware and forgot). In that case, I agree with you but see him getting a chance to attack the conference season. If he's let go mid-season I would expect it to ve much, much closer to March 1Normally I would agree with you. However, someone posted after an earlier loss - ( I can't remember who- and kudos to him) that if Hewitt makes it to March 1st he gets a longevity bonus of $85,000. If not for that, I think he lasts until the end of the the year. Unless Mason sees some dramatic (and unexpected I'm sure) improvement from Hewitt, I see no reason to give this guy $85,000 more after the boatload he's already made from being a crappy basketball coach.
