Individual stats for VMI have not been updated as of 3:30PM on 12/18/20. I'll get them done as soon as possible.
VMI is currently 5-3 on the season. All 5 wins have been at home against weak competition. Their three losses are on the road. Lost by 21 to Penn St., 7 to VA Tech, and 11 to Gardner Webb.
History: GMU is 1 - 1 all time against VMI. The last meeting was December 23, 2009, which Mason won 89-86.
Wins: St. Andrews, Longwood, Greensboro College, Hampton, Campbellsville-Harrodsburg
Losses: Penn State, Va Tech, Gardener Webb
Canceled/Postponed: Regent, Mercer

VMI is led by 6’4” Greg Parham (15.6 ppg & 3.0 reb), 6’1’ Kaymdyn Curfman (12.7 ppg & 2.0 reb), 6’5” Myles Lewis (11.7 ppg & 8.6 reb), and 6’5” Sean Conway (9.4 ppg & 4.7 reb). 6’10” Jake Stephens (8.7 ppg & 6.0 reb) rounds out the starting 5.
VMI averages 83.0 points per game while giving up 69.3. The Keydets shoot 48.4% from the floor and 38.0% from 3. Opponents are shooting 38.9% from the field and 31.1% from 3. They shoot 79.6% from the free throw line. VMI out rebounds by their opponents by 7 boards per game.
The game is on ESPN+.
My prediction: This should shape up to be a battle of the 3’s. The Keydets shoot the 3 an average of 30.4 times per game. We take 27 3’s per game.
It will be interesting to see how we play after the Covid break. We weren’t exactly setting the world on fire before play paused. Additionally, we have to deal with 3 handicaps. 1. It’s a home game and we aren’t exactly world beaters at EBA under DP. 2. Covid layoff for us while they have remained active. 3. Will the real AJ show up?
The optimist in me says GMU manages to win a close one 75 - 74. The pessimist says we allow the Keydets to shoot 20 - 40 from 3 and lose by 10.
Discuss.
