And just so everyone is aware the coaches did not listen to us! No min for JDS this game. They really must think he’s bad. Even when XJ disappeared with an injury JDS didn’t see the floor.

I think I'm ready to blow it all up and start over. The enthusiasm coming from the empty seats holding G- Force signs and The Green Machine numbers dwindling, to Mar still getting significant minutes because we simply don't have enough quality players to put on the court. The whole thing is just showing the apathy the school has towards sports. If they don't care, why should we care?

Did any singular thing from last night suggest we have a great culture on or off the court?

There is no way for us to gauge this properly. You would be best positioned to answer this question.

Too many people confuse culture with winning. Not always the same thing.

The fact that guys haven’t mailed it in at the tail end of a terrible conference season is indicative of a pretty strong program culture. I’m sure they’re all frustrated and embarrassed with the record, but none of them have quit.

One way you know you have a culture problem is when you’re losing by 20 and one of your players is messing with his phone on the bench. We’ve seen that show before.

I think it was a reflection of the state of the entire program...from coaching to players to fans.

Greene demotion, AJ fouling out in 14 minutes, coach screaming at players which hasn’t seemed to work in 2 years, JDS not playing despite XJ getting hurt, the fans, the students, blaming the refs for the loss....I’m asking if you guys noticed anything that suggested we currently have a good culture that might just be dealing with a few injuries?

Been reading people say that it looks like our players quit, someone said the band looked small, others complained about the senior tributes. We all have said DP improved the culture at Mason but at our lowest point, said great culture, doesn’t seem to exist.

The coaching staff preached being humble and staying focused, going 1-0, then sprayed the players with water guns after a Jacksonville St game (may be wrong) leadership starts at the top.

Last night, I reflected during my drive home, and couldn’t really answer myself “how should we measure a good basketball culture?”

Jim, I always appreciate your knowledge and input, but there was nothing about last night's game or this season that leads me to believe we have a winning culture or program. Our leading scorer was benched yet again, our rotation is down to 7 players (one of which can't score), and attendance has hit a low point that dates back at least 15 years if not 20. Our roster is such a clusterf-ck right now, I honestly couldn't begin to tell you who is coming back and who's not (including Kier, Boyd, AJ, JDS and Greene).

We need to stop bringing up the previous regime as the low bar to clear, because we should be way beyond that after fours years. I think it's inevitable that Dave is coming back next season given his contract status, but sadly nothing I've seen with his recruiting or coaching makes me believe anything is going to change. And the truth is it pains me to say all of this, because I really liked the Paulsen hire.

You're trying to read into all the tea leaves to fit your narrative but the team just flat out had a shitty back end of the season for a variety of different reasons that aren't all related to DP's x's and o's white board.

Believe you typed out things that we're not seeing to indicate a strong culture. What ARE you seeing to suggest the strong culture.

Clearly we're not going to see players on their phones or them just walking off the court saying "f**k it"

Again, having a strong culture does not always translate to winning.

This team is limited in ways that don’t need to be re-hashed on here. But while many of our fans seemingly can’t wait for the season to be over, I see guys still out there trying to win even though they have nothing to play for but pride.

That in my experience is not indicative of a team with a broken culture.

Culture has a very subjective definition. In this case it all starts with winning and the expectation of winning.

I saw the players during Hewitt’s last games still playing hard and trying. It didn’t mean a strong culture.

Seeing Mason perform decently at Duquesne, have a good half against ST Louis, and play well against Dayton doesn’t mean a strong culture either.

In my viewpoint, having a guy like Greene who is a junior, and a rising senior, have a late season benching, lose his starting job and generally not look like hes interested, points to a culture problem which in turn points to the head of the program. Perhaps the staff is trying to challenge him more and hes not rising to the challenge but either way, theres some fundamental problems and therefore one could argue theres poor culture.

I always thought hearing about guys being in the gym longer, pushing in practice, and just always giving it all was the culture change that Dave put in and was going to give some dividends over the years. But I may have just bought in to some koolaid, and I really dont know.
