I'm not sure I've seen a worse shot for a DI player than #4 from Binghamton. Wow, that was ugly.

Interesting that Binghamton didn't start to foul us when it was about a 9 point game w a minute and a half left, given the way we shoot free throws (Calixte should just try and bank it off the backboard)

Mar does not play scared. Like his game.

I think we need to go zone more. The first half they killed us in the man-t0-man and we didn't make any adjustment. Even if we go to it once to change the pace.

Give the students credit, that was a decent turnout for a weeknight. Anytime they have sit above the pullout bleachers is a good sign (I set the bar low). The paying customers didn't come out. Hopefully Saturday is better.

Tomorrow Binghamton flies from Dulles to Chicago and then drives to Evansville for the game Saturday. They then drive back to Chicago to fly to DFW then to Cancun.

Calixte's points showed a couple of nice moves. I am really hoping we have a couple of blowout wins this year to get our freshmen some significant time and to get our starters a break.[/QU

Most of GoMar's shots were so clean—nothing but net. GoMar definitely does not touch rim (or, something like that!)

Kier is a berzerker! He learned a lot from Quise and a little bit more. He can create at any time.

Otis was red hot tonight!

Even thought Grayer was held under 10 points, it's good to know that this team can overcome a starter who has on off night.

Fun game!

Justin freaking Kier! Didn't put a foot wrong all night except for that one attempted lob pass. So far I'm really impressed with the improvements in his game. Grayer the new rebounding machine! Mar exceeding all my expectations and then some. Told y'all our bench would score tonight. Disappointing crowd but the ones that did show up had fun. How about that balancing act guy??

I don’t think we have room to talk about ugly shots considering Marquise from last year. Also, live look in at Calixte practicing free throws:

Especially for a Thursday. Only night students really go out to local bars. Was surprised at how many kids were there. Would wager Saturday will have more non students but less students.

Even thought Grayer was held under 10 points, it's good to know that this team can overcome a starter who has on off night.

Not a lot of 6'4" college players can just grab 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals when their shot isn't falling. Positively impacting the game without scoring is soooo valuable. I was critical of this part of Jaire's game through the early season last year but he's made gigantic strides.

Mar is as advertised. He's fantastically smooth and coordinated for his size. When he's hitting jumpers he pulls his man out of the paint, which is great for spacing and opens things up for the rest of the offense. We haven't had a player like Mar in my time here.

There's a ton more to talk about, but I'll leave it by saying that this team felt like it gelled for real in the second half. They had multiple 13-0 runs and outscored BU 37-19. The sequence where Kier came from behind to disrupt a wide-open fast break with a strip-steal, get the ball to Otis, then Otis skips it to Jaire for three is the sort of thing that just didn't happen in the first two games. Really happy with what we saw tonight.

No one is talking about Boyd, who was a point and a rebound away from a double double. Him grabbing 9 and Grayer getting 10 answers some questions about "where is the rebounding going to come from with Quise gone." Hope it was the new trend and not an anomaly. Those offensive rebounds are the difference maker in a lot of games.

Talked to Roger Neal (radio guy) before the game.

to the folks who follow recruiting, did we go after #32 from Binghamton? 6' 9" kid from Gonzaga in DC and was pretty good last night.

It was good to see the guys battle back after a the slow start. I was really hoping we would come out quick and get the bench a lot of minutes, but this type of game will be helpful down the road too.

Really impressed with Mar tonight. Starting to think he might be a little more than just a good player... once he gets stronger and we have a legit big man underneath that will free him up even more around the perimeter... yikes.

Calixte played better. I thought his defense looked better and looked more comfortable. I think he'll be able to give us this year about what Dixon might have been able to give us... not a ton of numbers, but we need to get the starters a rest somehow.

Greene looked really nervous. I think he's going to be fine, but I would love it if he could get more minutes to shake off the rust and start showing what he can do. He has shown glimpses - just needs more time.

I really expected to see more from AJ. All I've heard was how athletic he was and how well he played at Kenner. Not saying it will never happen, but man... anytime now. Maybe he'll have a big showing in Cancun like Kevin Foster did years ago in Puerto Rico. He's another guy that would really benefit from a strong start so he could get a long string of minutes together.

Happy for the win. Happy to see we can do ok when Grayer isn't on. Happy that the staff can show the guys that defense is the key. Would love to see us do a little better against the zone - we're probably going to see a lot of it.

Overall - it was a win ugly - but a win and there is no bad win.

I think there was progress made last night with starters -- it looked like there was some more coming off of the bench - but they will need to keep improving.

2-1 and we need only 18 more wins for a 20 win season.

Good win and good second half to overcome a rough first half particularly with the defensive side of the ball being sharp to get the team going. It was great to see Otis pick up the scoring after not having a good game in Louisville. Also awesome to see Mar really contribute from the jump and Calixste look better last night. With a thin team they need everyone to help as much as possible. Mar might be the best freshman since Jenkins, even though he is a different player since he can shoot from outside.

Also while Grayer didn't shoot well, he still helped the team win in many other stat areas. I saw Petey (I think) make that comment on twitter that he still filled up the statsheet even with not a great night scoring. Thats good stuff.

I'd like to see AJ and Greene have some contributions in the next game, AJ looked more comfortable last night, and I'm confident both will contribute as they adjust to the pace of D1 ball. I'm glad Greene got his first bucket, and I'm ready for him to hit his first of many threes.
