From the summit (Beating vcu) to the basement losing to La Salle. Damn this team is an enigma.

Moore just doesn't seem like himself today. Not going to win many games when our best player goes 0-9 from the floor. Have to wonder if the ankle is still bothering him.

Is it normal for kids this young to just not be able to get hyped for shitty teams?

Yes ... especially when you have no depth.

DP is riding our top 6-7 players for all they're worth because he's not getting much of anything from anybody else.

But these guys aren't robots. They get tired, physically and mentally. You could see after the first 8 minutes that nobody had any legs today.

It is what it is until reinforcements arrive.

Too many turnovers, and our bigs got pushed around too much in the first half.

Also, how many opportunities did La Salle give us there at the end? Two bad teams. :bricks:

Yep, if we had some shooters, we would have won that game.

Even with Marquise and Jaire combining for 3 of 21, we shot better percentages than LaSalle from 2 and 3.

We struggled from the line, but what else is new?

This game had nothing to do with shooters or lack thereof. We didn't play to our strengths and LaSalle did.

Well, that's partly because we let them. Our defense was incredibly passive for most of the game.

We also missed some shots incredibly badly at some crucial spots. The percentages often belie hitting shots when they actually matter.

We took too many perimeter shots. Pretty sure the pattern has been established: When we do that, we most likely won't win.

That doesn't mean we lost because we lack shooters. It means that, unlike Wednesday night, our guys were either unwilling or unable to impose our game plan on LaSalle.

LaSalle plays street ball and jacks all kinds of ill-advised 3s. The reality is they're going to hit some; you have to make them pay by pounding the paint and scoring at a higher rate on the other end.

We took too many perimeter shots is essentially code for, "we can't shoot the ball." Grayer 0-5, Abram 0-3 from three.

This is true. They essentially ran iso plays against us all night, which worked incredibly well when poor Marko had to try to guard someone one-on-one in a 4 out.

On the other side, they were pretty aggressive with the double teams anywhere the ball was thrown. A few times, we passed nicely out of them, moved the ball, and got some wide open looks; but mostly it really threw off our guards.

15 Mason turnovers to 4 for LaSalle accounting for a 13 point margin for that stat category. Mason shoots 47% at the free throw line. And, you're right, missed shots that are normally in the bucket.

Our boys wore themselves out defeating vcu.

This really sucks because we are in danger of a dead-last-place finish in the A-10.

On to GW and then close out vs. Richmond. Then.. the play-in round.

No "code" necessary.

With 2 games left in the regular season, everyone knows that we're a poor perimeter shooting team.

But we beat the first place team in our conference by relentlessly pounding the ball into the paint. That is our recipe for winning and we aren't bad when we're patient enough to pass up shots the opponent is happy to concede.

Today, there were a few times when LaSalle doubled Jalen and he made a nice skip pass for a wide open shot.

Had we executed properly, we wouldn't have needed to take any 3s.

But we weren't relentless today, even though LaSalle only has one true big. I think the guys were tired and just didn't have the legs to physically dominate.

I definitely think it is youth. Youth relies more on emotion which brings inconsistency. I can tell you that Mason is going to be very good next year. Mason has a lot of guards than can create their own shot, the confidence isn't always there but they always in to position to make a play in the lane.

It will get better for Mason and sooner than anyone thinks..
