You keep doubling down on your analysis that Loyola is not very talented, but they are right up there with Dayton as the one of the best teams in the league if not the best.

They can score inside and out, they play tenacious defense, they are equally adept at pushing the ball or scoring in half-court sets, and they aggressively crash the boards and block shots.

If they get in the NCCAT, they have the talent, depth and style of play to make a run.
Hahahahahaha no they don’t. The A10 is too soft! That’s it! As I said their junk yard ball wins vs soft teams but power 5 kids would throw one of them to ground one time and that would be the end of them. Mason and most of A10 are just way too soft. That should clear it up for you. He’s hands down coach of the year, with group he has it’s amazing what he’s done. If grant had that group he wouldn’t win a single game. If Valnetine ever gets talent watch out, they are going to own the league until he bolts out of the cult.

Back to earth. Move on, nothing else to say except
We were awful in every phase of the game.
So how did Loyola get all these amazing players? Skin has a lot of work ahead of him in the off season.

I would like to see this Loyola Chicago team play a very physical SEC team like Auburn or Tennessee

I will say though that I disagree that LUC are not talented. I would kill to have Alston on our team to play the 4. Would also love Watson and Norris to round out our starting 5 (all three of them would probably start over 3 of 5 of our starters for me).

But we are talented too, I just think the way they play causes us problems. It puts a ton of pressure on our PGs and Polite doesn’t do well under pressure and Okojie is still just a freshman.

Well......... sh$t. I think it's safe to post the Fordham game thread since we aren't going to pull this one out.

I think Mason has been awful for so long, there’s some jaded feelings. I agree with pg play has killed Mason for the last 10 years there’s no denying that. The A10 is also a 1 bid league. When Mason joined it was not! The league has to get a lot better. With that said Loyola was one of the absolute worst teams in D1 last year so he’s a raising star, the cult won’t be able to keep him or they will push him to one of their other schools.

Well said. I don’t disagree with the argument that the A10 is soft compared to the style Loyola plays, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t talented. They absolutely are, both individually and collectively.

And I did admittedly get a little ahead of myself saying they could make a run without factoring in the seed they would get. I do agree a good ball-handling team would neutralize the effectiveness of their defensive style.

All that said, it will be a great test for them when Dayton visits. Can’t wait to watch that one.

For Loyola, that's the way the game is supposed to be played. I didn't think there were a bunch of missed fouls by the refs or anything.

Our guards were terrible and not ready for their style. We were probably outmatched inside too - but tough to evaluate too much when we couldn't get the ball down the floor, much less inside.

Loyola is a very very good coached team. They are polar opposite of Dayton in every way. That should be a good game, it will be a test of does good coaching beat good talent. Grant has always been a horrible in game coach. It dayton drops Loyola and vcu are they out of tournament and it’s definitely a 1 bid league? Tbd… if Tony makes same jump as Valentine did they will dance. Loyola was beyond pathetic last year. Mason loses only Kelly and wood. Hayes will be a lot tougher. Keep most kids get another forward and Tony can win league next year but right now just some flaws. It’s ok though it’s year 1, in 8th picked 10th maybe 6/7/8 and call it a successful year.

Today stunk, but I’ll take 1-1 over a very tough week. We didn’t do anything we needed to do, got rattled on both sides of the ball and they couldn’t miss when wed have a flicker of hope.

I’m glad we have a top 5 win, we also have various close losses to top 5 programs. Still have a crack at Richmond, but the other 3 remaining games are very manageable. Duquense uri and Fordham. We still have a good chance to finish 10-8. I also think we will fit into that 6th or 7th spot which might help us w a good matchup. We’ll see.

Loyola plays fast and hard They play excellent "team ball." Assists +13. Clean, hard passing. Quick cuts to the rim. Strong close-out, chest-to-chest defense. Fly to rebounds and loose balls.Their collective energy is phenomenal.

Look at the numbers. No individual player on Loyola scored more than 10. They played 16 players! Granted, three of them played two minutes each, and none scored. But everyone else who played scored. Mason effectively played eight.

Loyola wears out it's opponents with its unusual depth.Because they sped us up and shoved us around so much, Mason's shooting percentage was horrendous. Loyola's shooting was good. They made 5 more 3s. But the speed of Loyola kills.

Today, Mason's style of play was not a match versus Loyola. It's a good learning opportunity for players and coaches. A bit of a let down after the Dayton win, but let's move on.

The regular season is a waste of time unless you're building an at-large resume; now, focus shifts to preparing for the A10 tournament. Happy for the reality check post the overrated Dayton win.

While I think Dayton is overrated, the win proves Mason has the talent to compete with the big dogs. However, today’s loss revealed Mason is soft.

On the bright side, you can't overhaul a roster overnight, but the team can improve its effort and toughness in a short span. If Mason can find that toughness, they have a puncher's chance in the A10 tournament.

Loyola has a pretty good thing going. Arena is nice - a little small, but fans are great, student section is great, and the place gets loud.

That was the most physical team I’ve seen. They are not super athletic, but they are talented and physical and they just frustrate you all game long.

Everything about the trip was fun except the actual game.

Looking back on the teams that have beaten us this season, it occurred to me that most are very physical defensively and used constant bumping and grabbing to take away the flow of our offense,

Charlotte, Tennessee, vcu, Richmond, UMass and Loyola all certainly fit that description.

GW and Saint Joe’s are the obvious exceptions.

Given that the home whistle is a real thing, feels like our guys need to get stronger and more accustomed to playing through repeated contact.

Only beating teams that allow you freedom of movement and to comfortably run your stuff doesn’t seem like a recipe for the kind of success Tony is looking for.
