GIVING DAY 2023
On Facebook Live Paulsen blamed the loss on fatigue.

Also battling thru some adversity and being able to take care of business on the offensive end. It’s a lot of things, but as coach said they aren’t ready to put a few really good games together in a row quite yet. Best is yet to come with this group though.

This game drove me absolutely bananas! Did the two teams trade uniforms in the locker room at halftime?!?!?!?!?!
  • In the last five minutes I think Kier had three horrid, HORRID, turnovers and missed an easy, but crucial, lay-in at the rim to give LaSalle a clean break-away and lay-up.
  • Boyd misses a lay-in and two wide open three-point attempts late in the game.
  • Otis 3-18 shooting, took some very ill-advised shots off drives.
  • All that and nothing from Grayer—his foot must be really bad.
Dammit my vocal cords are searing right now from yelling at my computer screen! I need a beer, or two, or ten!!!

Back to Philly Wednesday for St. Joe's. Really need to split this road trip. Onward and upward!

La Salle was missing wide open three's, they were like 1/11 at one point. I don't the think the defense was spectacular.
I agree but you can't put up 62 pts and expect to win. Guys had good looks and threw up bricks and airballs.

If you tell me the opposing team shoots 40 percent from the floor, and you hold them to 62 points I’m thinking that you have a chance to win a good portion of the time. Mature on offense, keep doing what you’re doing on defense and it’ll come together.

Disappointing second half. La Salle's defense obviously improved, but I'd say this was a game where we beat ourselves more than the other team beating us. Grayer still looks hurt (his shots were horrendously bad and he had no explosion when he did get to the basket), Boyd is still hit or miss (not sure if it was La Salle's gameplan to let him take all those 3s in the second half or not, but he only made 1 important one), Otis looked gassed in the second half (missing open shots is usually not Otis's MO).

I was skeptical we'd win this game on the road. We had a chance. That's all you can ask with a young team. On to S. Joe's.

Found out you can pause the game stream on the A10 site and come back and play it 5 hours later. Worked out well given a busy day of youth basketball.

Too bad it worked for this game. Otis was not Otis today and it killed Mason in the end.

I, like many of you, have seen this type of play over so many seasons and eras. I can tell that the struggle is building character, but these growing pains are always so difficult to watch. But I feel by the end of this season we will reach a major milestone. The young core of this team will be hardened and battle-tested. It's the next milestone that I am not looking forward to, but have to get past—it's the big, heartbreaking loss. That's the last milestone to be achieved before we know this team has turned the corner to reach consistent success. But, aye-chihuahua, the growing pains are pure torture.

That loss stung. That's one of those games where we were so cold in the 2nd half, it would have been nice to sub all 5 players out and give them a rest while the green team takes some minutes... if only we had that luxury. It's like everyone could see it happening right before your eyes, but you couldn't do anything to stop it.

I knew at half time as soon as my mind started thinking how I was gonna spend my money line winnings we were doomed.

Some of the shots I agree were good looks but the % game was going to get us eventually. The team lacks composure which what happens with a young team.

That was my major concern at half time. We were shooting lights out (granted they were wide open 10 footers so we should be hitting them) and they were shooting poorly. Eventually that's going to even out slightly. Also I figured they'd switch up their offense and start pounding it down low, which they did.

Even still we should have won. We missed some very very wide open looks.

Mental and physical fatigue will do it. Good thing in all this.....maybe it will prepare them better for a 3 or 4 game win streak in D.C.

The fact that we even had a chance to win in the final minute with our best player suffering through the worst game of his life and our second-best player gutting it out on a bad foot is pretty impressive when you think about it.

Two months ago, we would’ve lost that game by 30 even against a dogsh!t team like La Salle.

Dave and the staff have done a great job developing these young kids into significant contributors. Kier might just be our best two-way player, Boyd is doing lots of great stuff even when he doesn’t score and the freshmen bigs are improving every game.

Barring another crazy offseason, we’re going to start next season with no fewer than 9 guys who know they can handle themselves on this level. That means this season has been a great success regardless of the final record.

Even with all that, currently at 6-8 with 4 games remaining, we still have a chance to go .500 in conference or at best even 10-8, actually one win better than last year!

Neither is likely and:

2-2 - Would be a good enough finish considering everything this year
1-3 would be disappointing
o-4 would be upsetting - there is no justification for 0-4, that would be on Paulsen and the Paulsen hawks should get free reign for at least a week to bash Paulsen and masturbate while they do it (as if they don't already).

We have a pretty banged-up basketball team right now. All players are hurting one way or another by late February, but even more so when you’re dealing with an 8-man roster.

Grayer in particular could use some time to rest his foot. He’s a tough MFer and is playing through a lot of pain but it’s clearly affecting him.

That said, I agree we should win at least 1 of these final 4. We’ll probably need to get to 7 conference wins to avoid a play-in game.
