Five players in double figures, 18 assists (Moore with 5, Jenkins and Allen with 4 apiece), only 11 turnovers (that's low for us), plus we held them to under 40% shooting and under 30% from 3. It was an all around team win.

Scoring aside, I'd say the big keys were we made 22 of 29 FTs, matched them on the boards and only committed 11 turnovers.

There's more. Other than one quasi-selfish player and one formerly-great-but-now-ineffective player, the team is actually clicking on offense finally. The defense still isn't great but it's just enough to win games if the offense is strong

Defense would have looked a little better if we didn't put them on the line 30 times. Have to play without fouling. UMass ended up with less fouls than us despite deliberately fouling to extend the game.

I'm not basing it on the scoring total. The fg% was over 41, I think, and we need to do better than that. And fouling too much is a defensive problem. If they were executing better, they would not need to reach in so much. And if they were vcu, they could reach in all they want, not get called, and we would have REALLY blown them out!

FG% was 39.7 (26-68) and 28% from 3 (7-25) -- they took a lot of 3s. Agreed, it's more a problem with getting our bigs up in the air, though...Copes and Jenkins can both get block happy.

I watched the game - and the difference was - when the guards went inside to the bigs - they did not lose the ball and they scored - thus the high assist and low turn overs.

Also the offense was better off the high screens and players made some really good cuts - which led to good passes and easy buckets.

The team played all 40 minutes - the Zone defense did cause UMass problems.

Copes was looking like Copes before the injury - his inside presence was affecting UMass shots - he got a few blocks as well, rebounding like crazy and burned them with his inside shooting to start the second half.

Moore played very well - and both Allen and Wright stepped up and closed the game.

The UMass announcers on the feed for the game said - GMU was the last place team in the A-10 but was a very good team that just could not close out games - and mentioned taking St Louis to OT at their place.

Team looked good - kinda like the St Louis game but without the last minute collapse.
