I attend almost every game. But I cannot blame the weak attendance on anyone except Tom O'douchebag and his protege Paul the Stupid Hewitt.

What has this program honestly done in the last 5 years to warrant excitement or attention from the fan base or even the students?

Us here on the boards are excited about Paulsen because of where we are headed, not because of where we are right now.

If we were perennial contenders in the A10 and we still have crap attendance, only then will criticism of weak attendance be valid in my opinion. We've never experienced a winning team since we joined the A10. Win and everything else will come especially with an AD and a president who knows what they're doing at the helm.

Exactly. I was watching the beginning of Duke at Miami.....Miami turns out the lights, has a light show and then turns on the huge fans in the rafters to simulate a hurricane....the kids go nuts.

I know L is still destroying the program down there....but at least the U puts on a show to draw some fans.

I saw that intro too and thought it was awesome. I've never seen that intro before though, and that lighting system may have something to do with selling out their season tickets this year.

Not to beat a deadhorse about attendance, but the way the team played and acted for the last 4 years basically killed any interest off. People like winning teams, and its about "what you have done for me lately". It most likely would happen at any school (other than big games/rivalry games).

Hopefully there will be a nice turnout for the GW game but the team really needs to win before we start sniffing the average attendance above 5k (which I think would be respectable).

Looking at DP and L, both went to a harder conference. However, they inherited different teams upon their arrival. But L has been doing things differently. Instead of the traditional 4 yr player, he is opting for the older players/transfers to fill voids. If L recruited for the long term, i.e., young but decent players, would Miami be ranked right now? If DP filled in some voids this year with a 5th year transfer, would we be finishing games a little better? I hope DP is learning and embracing the process too.

I think L's recruiting/reliance on transfers/Jucos was thrown off by having a huge senior class and Larkin leaving early from the sweet 16 team (5 or 6 players left) and he had 3 transfers last year who were all recruited out of high school and are currently red shirting at BCS programs.

But your point remains, L has not hesitated to bring in transfers (Murphy, McClendon, Rodriguez) or Jucos (Cruz-Uceda, who played with Shevon - and is probably who Hewitt was recruiting when he noticed Shevon) to fill the roster and it has worked amazingly well.

But don't sleep on L's recruiting of high school players, next years class is by far the best in the history of the program, a top 10 class nationwide.

Thank god Snowflake is back to help our team. Mason has had its' best years when these boards were about basketball playing chimps, Cambodian exchange students, politics and porn. All the bellyaching over attendance, coaching, light shows and athletic department performance clearly hurt our team.

That said, tonight I'll be in Norman to see OU/Texas Tech. I'll report back whether they outdraw the average Mason game and whether their band can hold a candle to ours.

I don't know about anyone else, but the Patriot Center itself is a bit of a turnoff for me and not much incentive to go to games. I know other students feel this way. The lighting is terrible, there's some annoying flash that drove me insane at the last game I went to, and in general the whole place just feels dated. Maybe I'm alone here but I feel like a better environment might draw some more people. Guess I'm just frustrated nothings been done about the lighting but it feels like I'm in a cave every time I go to a game.

I tend to agree - I like the effort of the guys we have, but GMU is overmatched in the A-10 right now. I think some experienced college players in the mix would help. Might as well take advantage of the skyrocketing number of transfers each year. Lately it seems we just have a bunch of guys transferring out without picking up any transfers ourselves.
