Hopefully this has the same outcome as the Iona game - like Duquesne a team that can score but also struggles to defend.

"Well, they were in the Final Four less than a decade ago, and now they're at our level. It took us a lot more than 9 years to get to the basement."

Re: George Mason
Betting line opened with GMU favored by 1; a little money on the Dukes have resulted in the current line being a Pick. Pomeroy has the Dukes winning by 1, 74-73; giving the Dukes a 51% of winning this one.

GMU has scored 70 or more points only 3 times this season vs. D-1 competition. A very poor shooting team, GMU tries to make up for this shortcoming by getting to the line frequently (3rd in conference) and getting offensive rebounds (1st in conference). GMU has a tall line up and they are shooting less than 30% fron the 3 (but nearly 35% in conference). So, the Dukes' zone may be semi-effective tonight, but Ferry should be ready to switch up to man if we are getting killed on the offensive boards. But as we have seen, defensive adjustments have been lacking.

http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/...Koy-resurfaces-for-Dukes/stories/201501310134:

"The zone is a blessing and a curse for the undersized Duquesne.

A blessing, McKoy said, because 'we can just pack it in and wall up around him.' But it also doesn’t give any single man the responsibility of getting position on the big man to grab a rebound.

Thompson, the fifth-leading rebounder in Division I, hauls in an average of 4.8 offensive rebounds per game.

'Just try to keep him off the glass as much as we can and limit his touches on offense, so he can’t catch the ball,' McKoy said.

'We’ve seen him on film. Usually, when he catches it down there he’s going to score.'"

Point is well taken about GMU's precipitous fall, but I'm 42 and can't remember a time Duquesne was nationally relevant. Perhaps he's referencing a time when the Dukes were at least competitive within their own league.

Sorry Jalen, you guys gotta take one for the program. Can't fly to Pittsburgh when we're pinching pennies to buy out your "coach."

Hewitt should have paid for the flight! There, I said it for you Jalen.

From wikipedia--they seemed to have peaked early (way before the 64/68 team NCAAs). Haven't been to the NCAAs since '77 and only been over .500 in A10 five times since then.
