Thanks for that ringing endorsement, PMP! That's like the kiss of death around here. Seriously, I get that Patrick will never be the player we all envisioned him being, but the reality is he is the only player on our young roster not named Thompson that opposing coaches have to game-plan against.

He might have one game where he goes 2-11 from the floor, but he can then bounce back and hit 75% of his 3s the next game. Frustratingly inconsistent? Absolutely. Average to poor defender? No question. But he also stretches a zone defense, which creates more opportunities for our guards to drive and dump the ball over the top to our big men.

This is why you are my favorite poster. Good analysis.

I don't care that everyone else hates him, I think this guy is great. He's like Coach Paul Hewitt great, who once took his team all the way to the national title game in case you weren't aware.

Yes, in fact I think it's fair to say that PoorManProfit is the Paul Hewitt of internet posters.

I'm going to have to read this a few more times. I'm not sure if this is a compliment or not. "Saul Pewitt" might be the second best handle on this site. To "PoorManProfit" of course.

GIVING DAY 2023
My quick take on the game...

Friday disappointed me a lot because beyond the loss I didn't see anything special that will make our freshman standout in the future. Last night, I loved what Otis and Grayer showed. They made plays and were competitors. When there was a 17-point swing and we were down 6 with about 2 minutes to go, we could have folded, but behind those two (and an incredible Marko) we came back and tied it. If we secure one defensive rebound and don't give up that 3 we might be celebrating today. Nonetheless, I can see a lot of games in the next four years where Otis just refuses to allow us to lose. I can't wait for that.

Our upperclassmen, sans Marko, are pretty awful. I can see a lineup with all 5 freshman in the game together in our future.

I don't think we can ever bet on this team with our fouling late. This was a tie game with 40 seconds left and we still didn't cover. Gamblers should avoid us this season.

I bet on the over/under (total score) for it going under, 137 seemed way too high for me. Of course, if Mason had hit some more three's, then my theory was shot.

I've read in the past how much of a competitor Otis is, and that was on full display last night (I only watched the second half). As soon as the game was over, the first thing I noticed was him visually upset about the loss. He seemed really distraught, and that is the kind of fire I absolutely love to see. That young man is really impressive.

Like others have said, I was also really impressed with Jaire. He's struggling to put it in the hole, but he seems to have a high basketball IQ, good athleticism, and pretty good handles taking it to the rack. He seems to be a very capable defender as well, which is probably why he and Otis are getting the most minutes on the team through the first two games.

Abram hasn't gotten much burn yet, but I liked his energy, especially on the defensive end. I don't think he's going to be a strong offensive player, but he will be a solid glue guy on the wing. His length will be valuable, which we saw with a few acrobatic blocks last night.

He seemed a little lost on the court and had some ball security issues with players just taking the ball from his hands.

I'm pretty sure the reason for Shevon's limited PT (22 mins vs Colgate and 19 vs Mercer) is directly related to TO's. In those limited minutes he has 8 TO's and is leading the team (more than twice as much as anyone else). I specifically noticed him getting yanked immediately after TO's at least 3 times during the Colgate game.

So I don't think it's injury or anything, is simply Paulsen's tactic over emphasize to Shevon what he is trying to teach him. You don't protect the ball - you don't play.

I am not going to say anything others have not said about Marko's performance last night. He played with emotion and heart. He was a cheerleader when he was on the bench. He gets it. Now he needs to inspire Jalen and Shevon. Those two playing like Marko would be the difference between a bad season and a respectable season.

Now, the freshmen may turn out to be good ball players, but physically they look like they still should be playing high school ball. I don't recall ever thinking that Mason's freshmen look as young as these guys.

And my final observation, I like that Paulsen can show a fiery passion one minute and then show compassion to a freshman who screwed up the next minute. And the dude likes to drink water during a game. He is like the guy doing a presentation who needs a cup in his hand so to look casual.

Look if you are going to post a link with scantily clad women be up front. Don't obfuscate. Clearly let us know. Believe me we will click it. Your current approach makes you an asshole.

That is absolutely true. Normally he will have them keep fouling until the final horn - unless the margin gets well into double digits. At Bucknell, he had them foul down by 10 points and about 20 seconds left on occasion. Fouled down 7 with 5 seconds left. Etc.

Some view it as a "never quit" attitude. Others see it as a refusal to accept reality. In any event, I know there were more than a few groans from fans who didn't want to leave before the final horn - but who also didn't want to sit though another minute of meaningless FT shooting. Since Paulsen does not coach a full court or half court trap, fouling is the only late-game option.

This is a ridiculous statement.

I saw over 90% of the games that DP coached at Bucknell and I never recall him instructing his players to foul an opponent when the team was down by 10 points with 20 seconds to play. There may have been some instances when a Bucknell player fouled an opponent in such a situation -- but it was the player being aggressive and not DP instructing the player to foul.
