55 total fouls. 66 total free throws. 2 hour 20 minute game. 3 inept referees.

That equates to a foul every 43 seconds. Unacceptable officiating by any measure.

This marks two weeks in a row that the refs have sucked. Talk about ruining a game. They never modified their rate of calling ticky tack fouls which had no bearing on a play. The last 7 minutes of this game were unbearable. The A10 needs to start bitching about the refs if this is what we get at this point of the season.

Agree with other comments on how we usually lose a rough game like this in the past. This team is 10x tougher than we've been and I hope we keep that edge all season.

Kudos to Billups who once again made lots of big plays down the stretch.

Kudos also to KD who was a huge spark plug when he came in and made some great passes. Actually think his problem has been that this team just doesn't move at his pace. When he learns to slow it down a bit, his passes will be as good as we've had in a long time. And frankly, I don't care if rabbit ear refs call T's on him if he keeps nutting up like he did today.

The team and coach are worthy of better than fans have given. Our attendance remains embarrassing. I got the evil eye numerous times tonight from my new girl "Spike" in 115 who objects to any kind of verbal support. RIP Brillohead, long live Spike. I used NO profanity, just polite insults, and Captain Obvious yells at UMass and the refs. Everyone else around me loved it, but no doubt, I'll get called into the principals office to discuss my behavior.

You undersold how bad this ref was lol. The entire officiating crew was atrocious.

Just glad we got the W, even if it did take an eternity for the game to end.

I was at the game today and the players couldn't have been more polite in signing autographs after the game. Agreed - these guys need more support.

I'm sure this has been brought up many times, but why isn’t the game broadcast on tv's in the concourse? Is following the game while waiting for an end of first half beer too much to ask?

The bald guy is usually a thorn in our side but he paled in comparison to the old guy. He was completely out of his league and spent the last ten minutes of the game clock trying to joke around with players and coaches to make up for his ineptitude. The worst was the lack of whistles in the first 5 minutes followed by the barrage of ridiculous calls for the rest of the game. Game should be consistent from start to finish.

First college basketball game I’ve attended when the home crowd yelled “let them play” when the opposition was called for a foul.

I do think they get evaluated by the NCAA and only the highest scoring refs get to work the tournament (which I’m sure is lucrative for them).

I haven’t watched the game yet but sounds like I’m in for a slot when I turn it on tonight.

Yeah the By George guys ask some insightful questions, and didn’t mean this to be a knock on the student reporters in there because I’m sure it is hard to be on the spot in there while you are learning how to do it. Just in general, I would be personally interested in more in depth questions than “you scored xx points today, what were you seeing that let you score that”, or asking Tony how he prepped for a game after he explained how they prepped in his opener. Or if they are going to ask stat related questions, at least make sure they are referencing the correct stat before they ask about it.

Watching the game now and my goodness you guys were right about the refs.

Just saw the Haynes monster dunk and I think that was part F you to UMass defenders who foul constantly and part F you to the refs who just T’ed up Johnson for no reason.

The crowd in my section 130 were loud and rightfully yelled at the refs the entire game. Overall very choppy game because of all the calls. Maddox finally looks back to normal, Bill ups really brings tenacity and fight to the team, Stas gave us good minutes also. We can complain about the TO s;(18) and FTs(13 misses) til we are blue in the face but at this point we are who we are.

I just want to forget I spent 2+ hours watching that. What an abysmal game. Brought back old CAA Georgia State game vibes but probably even worse. Between the Refs determined to suck every ounce of joy from the game, the endless mind boggling turnovers and missed free throws it’s barely even registering with me that Mason won.

In the final few minutes of the game each team had 3 players with 4 fouls and next foul would knock them out of the game. By far the worse game I have seen with officials. They killed the game and chance to beat the spread - hard to defend when each possession is free throws.

I will give props to my Section 114 - for being loud and engaged. Interesting the family section is directly behind me and a group of elementary school kids get the entire section chanting and screaming
throughout the game. They were so excited to win free Pizza yesterday - you would have thought everyone in the section was getting a new car

People like this can stay home and watch the game on TV. I’m not sure why they’re going to a live sporting event and expecting library atmosphere.
