Don’t know where to start but this is a tough one. Like coach said, if a team shoots 52 percent and 66 from the field you don’t deserve to win.
It was going to take everything we had to win a game like this one. Unfortunately when we needed a stop or a 3 we didn’t get it. Cooper took a terrible 3 towards the end and that was all she wrote. Banks hit a few big shots when it mattered even though he went quiet for much of half 2.
Offensively, while the team had rough patches I thought the scheme and execution was fine. Many times we had an open 3 or a cut for a layup. That said we missed a lot at the rim tonight. I thought Venning played really well defensively. Also, I liked when the offense went through Oduro, either in the post or at the top of the key. It seemed to work.
Defensively, I thought we slowed them at times, but they got too many easy baskets and Banks hit some really tough ones. There was a period in the second half when Bonaventure didn’t score for a good 4 minutes. However in the last five, mason just couldn’t get enough stops.
if Mason wants top 4, they are going to have to find a way to sneak an unexpected few wins. This was one that was winnable and they fell short. Disappointing.
Also, nowhere near Hewitt 2.0. I see adjustments, clear Plays on offense and decent defense scheme. Sometimes there are breakdowns but I can’t see any comparisons. I just don’t think we are where English wants us to be and he has to find a way to win a few games like this. Winning at home is great, but somehow he has to improve on the road.
