I guess we really, really know what kind of team Paulsen wants build.....from one of the articles posted above in the RTD:

“I was laughing (Wednesday) night,” Paulsen said. “You had the Virginia-Louisville game on TV, and you had the UCLA-Oregon game on TV, and I was way, way more interested in the Virginia-Louisville game. I could watch Virginia play defense 12 hours a day as long as we’re not playing against them.”

I imagine Paulsen will want to grind the F out of vcu make them and us use the ENTIRE shot clock.

I am just fine with that.

"Friday will also be the first of four episodes of CBS Sports Network's Inside College Basketball: A-10 Tip-Off. The show will air prior to the league-opening doubleheader of La Salle/Dayton (6:00 pm) and vcu/Mason (8:00 pm) that will both air on CBS Sports Network."

I love watching all games but I wish my hype level could be like this all season. It's all downhill from here until tourney time.

http://gmuhoops.co/2016/12/28/georg...play-with-showdown-against-vcu/#disqus_thread:

"The big key in last year’s win was getting to the free-throw line. They managed to get 37 attempts compared to the 14 they got in their loss to them earlier in the season. If Mason gets 20+ free-throw attempts I think they have a very good chance of winning. They are 8-0 this season when they make at least 15 free-throws. With how well they are rebounding they don’t need to rely a great night shooting the ball in order to win, they just need to follow their formula. The difference against vcu is that it may require a lot more work than the effort they’ve needed in recent games.

Both teams play efficient defense but I think the real difference is Mason’s offense and the Rams’ task of trying to stop Marquise Moore. JeQuan Lewis will most likely be guarding him and that should be a good match-up to watch all night. With how good Moore has been playing and how he’s out-working everybody on the court, it’s tough for me to think he won’t win that battle. vcu has gone through a lot of scoring droughts this season and Mason’s offense has been rolling. I think this match-up favors Mason in more areas but they need to play their game for a full 40 minutes to win."

Already got bourbon on hand and starting my pregaming. Have the day off from work and worked late last night to clear my desk.

Let's go get some!

Planning - Update - my oldest is going to drive us to the game. Plans are to go commando and free ball.

Bourbon and coffee in the mix now. Will hit the Mason Book Store to freshen up gear. Face paint is being considered.

'They press more than they did last year," said coach Dave Paulsen. "So we have to take care of the ball against the press, take care of the ball against their overplay and denial and things like that in the half court. They feed off of getting out in transition."

"We have to play good solid half-court defense. It's the same keys as every game, but it's heightened because they're a really really good team."

Forcing vcu into a halfcourt game is one of the best ways to beat them. It's been a long time since they've had a good halfcourt offense (2007, 2008, and even then that was the Eric Maynor show?)

vcu will try and play rough and physical with Jalen Jenkins to get in his head/foul trouble/make him tired. Will Troy Temara play today and how much?
