As badly as we guard at times in man to man, we are a thousand times worse in zone — and it hurts us on the defensive glass to boot.

Why make an adjustment just to say you made an adjustment?

I'm guessing Paulsen doesn't want to throw too many defensive schemes at these guys until they actually learn how to play man to man effectively.

Kind of contradictory statements there. Paulsen started Calixte so Mar wouldn't have to guard their huge 5, sounds like an adjustment from previous games.

Correct, I should have been more clear. I like starting Calixte. However, given that a Mar-Calixte/Wilson line up wasnt on the floor much at all, and even when it was, we got killed in the paint. So he made one adjustment by starting Calixte. (and I hope he continues to start). We then made no in-game adjustments.

Sometimes who you have and what they can do doesn't leave room for adjustments on the fly.

If they can barely grasp playing your "base system" I am not sure throwing new things at them makes any difference.

100% agreed. That said, keep in mind that when the team is doing better, Paulsen can mix it up with them. Remember the second game against vcu and how they adjusted the third time they played them? Once this team progresses a little bit, I bet he can mix it up more.
