Anderson got the start, played 20 minutes and scored 2 points.
The ball has to find Zach when he has space to shoot. Some games we do a better job of this than others. As Kaufman pointed out he contributed in other ways.

Begg may still have lapses on D, but his comfort level on offense is improving by leaps and bounds.

How about a shout out to Jalen Haynes. He's been great the last three weeks and just the guy we all thought we'd be getting when he transferred. His conditioning seems much-improved and it appears (to me at least) that he's dropped some weight, compared to what he looked like early last month.

Lastly, a hat tip to Stas Sivka. In all my years following this team, I can't recall seeing a freshman big splash 3 straight threes like he has done over the past two games. I get that they all came in garbage time, but he's got a nice shot. If Tony, Lamar, and the rest of the staff can continue to develop Begg, Cokley, and Sivka, this team is going to be pretty deep for years to come.

Have am just now watching the game and two things about Anderson: 1) Penn was definitely guarding him tight all game and chasing him around everywhere and 2) he was out last line of defense and contested a lot of Penn’s shots at the rim. He was a big reason why they only had 4 points in the paint in the first half.

We need to do a better job of getting Anderson screens to free him up, but it seems like he’s more likely to set screens for BOC and Maddox than Newton or Haynes setting screens for him.

Edit: it shows really unselfish play by Anderson. Some shooters will try to get their shots up no matter what and screw up the offensive flow. We need players like that who will lock in and do whatever it takes for the team to win.

Billups is another player like that. It was his turn tonight.

“I don’t want to run offense unless I have to run offense”.

To piggy back off the conversation in the Duke Chat.
Tony deserves some criticism for some of the half-court sets we do or don't run, but you are taking his quote out of context. He's talking about not calling plays when guys are on the break after a steal or missed shot. Sure, guys know to spread the court and work the give-and-go to exploit mismatches, but his comment was that he trusts his players in open-court situations.

Why are these people sitting?

Would it kill us to have someone yelling/encouraging them to stand up and get into the game? The "Get Loud" sign isn't working fyi...
I’ve attended two CBB of my kids schools this year (Charleston and ASU). Both fan bases stand at the beginning of each half until the first basket is scored. Overall, the fans stand more throughout the game and end-game. We should start this tradition!

Fair. However, the point made in the Duke chat was about Skinn giving his players freedom, which is emphasized even in the full context of the quote.

Imo, you are in a fast break or a secondary break. Secondary break(Dean Smith)is a set play but in transition with pace and options. It sets up the players for success in scoring the ball by giving them options and a role within it. I like many options vs the whole freedom on offense. Otherwise, we are watching ymca level one on one crap.

I agree with that. Even though the players might have freedom on the break, it doesn't mean they aren't drilled in practice about the multiple scenarios.

We had a great drill we worked on in practice in my youth coaching days where one kid stood under the basket and another kid at the top of the key. I'd throw the ball of the backboard and the player underneath would grab it like a rebound and throw a chest pass to the other guy. Three passes later the rebounder is the one who scores a layup, which reenforced the idea of every player running the floor.

Missouri State has done that for years as well. Adds a fan element to the game IMO.

Mason is actually quite efficient on the break so I’m guessing they all know what to do and what their role is once the rebound is secured or the steal happens.

Not so much in the half court though.
