Game 10: GMU (7-2) vs Loyola Md. (1-9) on Saturday, December 16, at 6:00 PM.

That CBI game pissed me off so bad - couple of the seniors were clearly just goofing off, throwing behind the back passes and shit. I actually went home and wrote Dave Paulson after the game telling him that all the Mason fans wanted to see was some friggin effort.

He actually responded that night and told me he was pissed himself and did what he could during the game (benching a couple guys) and tried to get the rest to take the game seriously. Unfortunately, the seniors had no interest in being there and those bad apples spoiled the bunch for that game. I admired the quick response, inside baseball and honesty.

Only good thing that came out of that game was Otis becoming the leader of the team.

Tony will not let that happen Saturday.

"PATRIOT POINTS
• The Patriots are 7-2 to begin the season and currently hold the highest NET ranking (60) in program history.

• The Green & Gold return to action Saturday after a 10-day competitive break for final exams. Mason most recently split its two-game road swing, which included an 86-77 win at Toledo on Dec. 2 and 87-66 setback at #17/13 Tennessee on Dec. 5.

The Patriots rank 11th nationally in 3pt FG percentage (.403) and have been on fire as of late. Mason is shooting 44.3 percent (47-106) and making 9.4 triples per game over its past five contests. Over the past three contests, the Patriots are shooting a sizzling 50 percent (28-56) from beyond the arc.

• Senior Darius Maddox led Mason with 15 points (3-6 3pt FG) at Tennessee. He is averaging a team-best 16.3 points over the last four games while shooting 52.1 percent from the floor and 47.6 percent from deep.

• Senior Woody Newton added a career-best 13 points (4-5 FG, 3-4 3pt FG) against the Vols. He's averaging 9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and shooting 66.7 percent over Mason's past four games. Although he doesn't have enough attempts to qualify in the official NCAA rankings, Newton's 63.6 3pt FG clip (14-22) this season leads the nation.

• Freshman guard Baraka Okojie added 11 points (3-5 FG, 2-2 3pt FG) and a team-high three assists at Tennessee. He leads the team in free throws made (30) and free throws attempted (41) this season.

Sophomore Keyshawn Hall ranks eighth nationally in defensive rebounds/game (7.9), 24th in double-doubles (4) and is 42nd in overall rebounding (9.0/game). He leads the A-10 in all three of those categories.

The Green & Gold have moved into the KenPom top-100 overall (98) and offensively (92nd, 1.089 points/possession).

• In addition to the Patriots' 3-point prowess, Mason also ranks 49th nationally in effective field goal percentage (.545).

Mason is 5-0 at home this season and has won 19 of its past 21 games inside EagleBank Arena. The Patriots are shooting 49.1 percent from the floor in home games and have limited their foes to 35.4 percent in their five Fairfax contests.

• Three of the Patriots' final four non-conference games will be played in Fairfax. The Green & Gold will look to match the program's Div. I record for non-conference victories (11), set during the 2019-20 campaign."

"Series History Versus George Mason

  • Loyola and George Mason have met on 14 previous occasions with the Patriots winning eight and Loyola six.
  • In the last meeting on November 19, 2019, at Eagle Bank Arena, George Mason took a 37-30 lead just over four minutes into the second half, but the Greyhounds rallied to regain the advantage and go up 44-40 on a traditional 3-point play by KaVaughn Scott at 11:27.
  • George Mason regained the lead and was ahead 59-52 with 2:18 to play, but a Brent Holcombe layup made it a one-point game with 1:01 on the clock. The Patriots converted four free throws in the final minute, however, to secure a 65-61 win.
  • Loyola's last win in the series came on March 15, 2017, in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) when it defeated the Patriots, 73-58, in Fairfax."

Loyola (MD) will always be the team that doubled Steph Curry the entire game, even when he stood in the corner and let his teammates play 4 on 3 basketball, they never stopped doubling him losing by 30 points.

I also posted this on the Welcome Jalen Haynes's thread:

"CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The NCAA and a coalition of states suing the organization asked a federal court Friday to extend a small window for multiple-transfer athletes to compete through at least the winter and spring semesters.

The motion seeks to extend the 14-day temporary restraining order barring the NCAA from enforcing a rule for those athletes who transfer multiple times.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey in West Virginia issued a temporary restraining order against the NCAA. The ruling, part of a lawsuit by a coalition of seven states, said athletes who previously were denied the chance to play immediately after transferring a second time can compete in games for 14 days.

The NCAA then circulated a document to its member schools clarifying that the redshirt rule for athletes would still apply if the court’s decision is reversed: Basketball players who compete during the two-week window would be using up a season of eligibility.

Now, the two sides apparently are coming together to address the athletes’ desires."

"The NCAA said in a statement issued Friday that, 'given the unprecedented decision by the courts earlier this week, the NCAA has reached an agreement with the States to convert the temporary restraining order into a preliminary injunction through the remainder of the 2023-24 NCAA championship season.'"

Since the TRO was issued, the majority of men's basketball players who had their waivers denied or were awaiting decisions continued to be held out of competition out of precaution. UNLV's Keylan Boone suited up on Wednesday night, but LSU's Jalen Cook, Little Rock's Makhel Mitchell and several other players sat out.

On Thursday and Friday, however, multiple schools announced that their previously-ineligible transfers would be dressed and available for this weekend's games. Among that group was West Virginia's RaeQuan Battle, whose waiver denial was at the heart of the coalition's case, and Noah Farrakhan, as well as vcu's Joe Bamisile."
