lol that’s true. Even Hewitt had McKay recruiting for him until the end I’d guess.

I’m interested to hear your perspective on what Dave has done, hasn’t done, and whether you think we are crazy and impatient, or we are calling it like it is. I think we all want Dave to succeed, but his ability to adapt at a higher level has not been there from game planning to recruiting. Also the ability to have poor shooting game after game. I know you’re a big Dave fan, but I have to think you’ve seen plenty of what we have all seen.

I’m also genuinely curious. 90% of us truly wanted Paulsen to succeed here from the get go, but what we’ve seen so far has lead the vast majority of us to the conclusion that he’s just not the guy. Honestly curious — What are you seeing that we are aren’t? Or what are we seeing and placing more weight on that you think isn’t as big of a deal?

“'The most important thing is to build a winning culture,' he said. 'Once you have established a winning culture, the winning teams follow. . . . Getting over the hump to be a national caliber program, that may take a little more time, but the first step is to identify what the Mason program is about.'”

And now in Year 6 we still seemingly have no idea “what the Mason program is about.”

Can’t decide whether to be sad or pissed.

I think it's pretty clear---
-good practices
-lackluster recruiting for league
-insurmountable scoring droughts
-players who fail to live up to hype
-injuries

to name a few.....

to summarize: "WALLOWING IN MEDIOCRITY AND FUTILITY"

This is one of my biggest gripe through 2 games this year.

What is our offensive identity supposed to be? Defensive? I honestly can't tell at this point what Paulsen spent the offseason focusing on and what we are trying to do.

Niceness is another one. There is a lack of meanness in the design of our offense and defense. We are too passive and kind of let the other team dictate how we play (oh, you want this space on the floor? By all means, it is yours. Oh, you are going to come in for this rebound? It is yours, sir).

Example 1: Oduro should be spent the entire game fighting with Muszynski and fronting him so if he get the ball it was a lob over the top and then we double him under the basket so it’s harder to pass it back out, but Oduro kept giving him all the space in the world to receive a pass and then make his move.

Example 2: the zone press was giving Belmont fits at the beginning of the game and then we backed off of it and didn’t really go back to it until it was way too late to make a difference. Foul trouble? Screw it: the second line should be instructed to be just as aggressive as the first line (maybe even more so). Instead, we let them jog up and set up in their half court offense and run it like they are running a practice.

And why the staff recruited a team of athletes built to play fast, we have success playing fast, then grind to a halt and insist on walking the ball up the court.

None of it makes a lick of sense.

I was hoping with Oduro having his body mature would mean he’d be a little bit meaner on both sides of the ball.

judging from what I’ve seen his offense has gone up, his defense has gone down. He was too inviting yesterday in the post for a guy his size.

You hit the nail on the head. We spend so much time adjusting to the other teams style we neglect to impose our own. Especially on the Oduro D last game. We were just hell bent on letting him catch the ball on the block.

AMEN to this post.

Oduro can’t play interior D but is good enough on offense that he needs to play 20-25 mins a game unless we go small (my preference). They need to figure out how to double the post or at least efficiently set up help side because it’s a guarantee a decent big man will at least partially get around Oduro. Muzinsky is good but we will play far better big men. TBH Henry did a hell of a job on him for 2 mins and Greg frustrated the dick out of him for 5 mins as well. They also put in their freshman bodybuilder to cover Oduro and he had 4 points after getting 8 in like 2 mins. Other teams adjust and Paulsen does not. He’s really a terrible coach in the grand scheme of things. Patriot League to A10 isn’t even that giant of a leap. Hell pikell went from America East to big ten and is currently killing it both recruitment and in game coaching.

there are better out there. Brad Edwards make your move.

our offense is so frustrating. You go and recruit kids like Daddy, Henry, Javon, AJ and run a slow a** paced offense with 0 identity and expect to win. WTF

A move is obviously necessary. I prefer a bigger name though. I’m fine at giving a retread another try.

We should fire him after we lose to Howard. I'm fine with Simpk taking over and Mojo as top assistant. And if they do well, give em a deal.
