XJ... if this kid finds a shot and stops the ole defense he could be special.

Would probably include Miller but Paulsen utilizes him completely wrong and it just doesn't work having him be the 2nd option on a team that you are trying to compete with. He is not that player

save the Hartwell, Oduro, Calixte, or Mar BS.

Just a thought. Great young coach currently at Randolph Macon (22 -1). Josh Merkel. Check out his profile. Solid candidate for Mason to look at. Same school that Mike Rhoads who currently coaches vcu came from. They have a great basketball tradition. He is very impressive. Yes div III, but they play a tough brand of ball.

Whenever I think Randolph Macon I think of the exhibition loss in 2008 lol.

He also coached under Neubauer at Eastern Kentucky. But I’d have to hope Mason would aim a little higher than someone from D3 currently.

I don't think any of the 4 you mentioned at the bottom are starting caliber A10 players; although Mar was well on his way after this freshman season, but a few can be an effective role players.

I actually really like Calixte's game. For the most part he's quick and decisive with the ball in his hands, he's athletic, and he can get up and down the court. His problem is between his ears, and I think a lot of that has to do with Paulsen killing his confidence the last couple of years. I think Hartwell can be a very effective scoring spark off the bench. Get him a few minutes ahead of a media timeout to where he's not left out there too long as a defensive liability. I still don't really know what to think of Oduro. Mar has lost pretty much all effectiveness on the offensive end. I really wish I knew what the hell happened.

The fundamental problem to me is that on the offensive side of the ball there isn’t enough depth and consistency to make up the scoring if someone goes down or for the youth.

AJ can score, but hes hurt. Greene can score but hes been so up and down.

Hartwell can score, but hes coming off sickness and to @Patriot8 point, hes like a spark. XJ can score but hes a frosh. Oduro same thing.

How do you change any of this besides getting healthy or some guys challenge themselves to improve constantly?

I don’t really know. I do know that I hate the type of offense Mason ran last night, with pulling the bigs outside the 3 point line, and the handoffs looking for cuts, they ran it slow and Richmond scouted it really well. Instead of adjusting they kept running similar variations all night. ZzzzZzzz.

he's bad because like our current coach he acted like it was 1984 each year he was at Lasalle. Great basketball mind but didn't adapt.

I don't know if Simpkins is our guy, but I know he can't be much worse than Dave.

All that being said, I'm still not an advocate for mid season firings in CBB, I don't see what we get out of it.

Their fans like the hustle and competitiveness they are seeing that they did see when McGrath was the coach.

I guarantee that UNCW will never hire from the UNC tree again.
