Those 2 writers have been cranking out lengthy columns on the spending excesses of the Power 5 conferences every other week, it seems. Perhaps its naive of me to think that the series will have some impact on reining in those excesses. Certainly the state universities would have state legislators who should be concerned about how public monies are spent.
It'd be nice if they did become concerned, but considering last year the Alabama state legislature introduced legislation to try to award Auburn more national titles than it has, something tells me these institutions, especially southern, will be allowed to continued unchecked as college sports rules all. It's a shame that articles like this seem to hurt the cause of things like a practice facility for Mason (or baseline facilities at other schools), something they need and certainly wouldn't be excessive like the Clemson facility.

This kind of thinking is likely what was behind the VA Legislature passing a bill that sets maximum percentage of an athletic budget that comes from student fees. IMHO a step in the right direction.

I'm sure that's the case--with all the national concern with the financial burden carried by students, student fees are an easy thing for the legislature to focus on, given that they aren't likely to increase support to state universities after so many years of continual per student cutbacks.

They should probably be more concerned with rising administration costs and maintenance for all these Taj Majals being built on campus. A $700 per semester student fee isn't driving student debt.

Looks like mini-golf might be a no go for Yabo-Dabo-Do, he just let the National Championship slip away.

The marching band at the school I teach at has its own practice field. The football team also practices in a climate controlled dome, too (they are right next to each other), but I also don't think the band is allowed to practice inside the stadium.

Stopped worrying about this Power Five conference nuttiness a while ago. Also don't want a marching band when we have the greatest pep band in the land. Aside from HBCUs and a few others, marching bands are boring as sh*t. Just wanted to make sure we're taking steps to be on par and competitive in the A-10, and I think Mr. Edwards has a good plan.

I'd be curious to know their criteria. We're better than all but 6 SEC, Big 10, Pac 12, ACC, and Big 12 schools? I have a hard time believing that.
Maybe they count gyms and other facilities open to the general student population? No way we're anywhere in the top hundred if we're talking about varsity sport facilities.

My guess is that they are talking about general student populations which is the target audience of the Princeton Review, not those who will be playing varsity sports. The RAC, Aquatic Center, Southside, and the Field House provide a broad and relatively modern array of places to work out.
