Nice to hear about the hustle and intensity. Not that anyone is putting much stock in this game, but I see Shenendoah was picked 11th out of 12 teams in the ODAC. In other ODAC preseason action:

Loyola 71 Bridgewater 49 (10th preseason ODAC)

Elon 90 Emory & Henry 50 (12th preseason)

Longwood 95 Hampden Sydney 60 (5th preseason)

I could be wrong, but I believe that Jenkins started & played mostly the "4" (with Marko starting at the "3") The only time that I recall Jalen playing on the wing was when Royal was at the "4" (and they rarely played together tonight). I also believe that the Patriots were running a 3-out, 2-in motion offense. See

.

If you watch this video you will see that OCM is using a motion offense vs a zone defense in both video examples. The OCM teams didn't atacked a zone well, but I just saw why. We didn't have a good plan. Other than continuing to use your motion offense, which you can do, a specific zone buster attack, we lacked. However, In the Old Spice Tourney in 2009, we did great job with Hancock and Morrison passing thru it for dunks. Not sure why we got better towards the end of his tenure. Maybe an assistant coach helped out with that.

Just checked out the box score. A couple things that stand out for someone who didn't watch the game:

Does anyone know why Shevon started over Erik?

We had 50 team rebounds, and a +22 rebound margin.

Marko and Jalen combined for 9 of the 23 teams assists.

Erik had 14 points in 14 minutes. Also had a team-high 3 steals.

The team rebounding and assist-turnover numbers look great for a team that has struggled immensely with those things under Hewitt.

The issue with Copes has never really been about what he can do when he's on the floor. The key is his inability to stay on the floor due to stupid fouls. Heck, we were playing a team Saturday that could have collectively auditioned for the TLC show "Little People, Big World," and he still managed to get two quick fouls.

Erik has the size, strength and athleticism to really help us this year if he can go back to being the defensive presence and shot-blocking stud we saw before he got hurt his freshman season. The key is blocking out consistently, holding his ground defensively and not biting on every damn pump fake.

Disclaimer: I have nothing against little people and apologize in advance to anybody I offended.

If you had saw the size of the kids they were going up against on the boards you'll probably feel different.

Lol, this explains it I suppose.

It does, especially since their tallest player was 6'7. However the assists and ball movement was definitely pleasant to see, even against low competition.

It's easy to negate, but we've had plenty of games the last few years with similar advantages that we did not exploit (FIU rings a big bell). Thompson was the only one I worry about going forward as he seemed to grab some flat-footed rebounds and just allowed his size and length to help him. Everyone else I saw a determined effort to box out, get after the ball and play tough. We'll know soon enough, but the energy level top to bottom just had a much better feel. Maybe, just maybe, knowing that the offense will not be dominated by two isolation guards has everyone playing a little hungrier.

I said last year, after watching his highlight tape, that Tate might be this year's surprise. Sadly, i missed the Shenadoah game but am looking forward to the two games this weekend. Princeton should test how well-disciplined Mason is this year.:vomit:

Yes the highlight is nice. However even with Corey Edwards injured, Marquise Moore and Isaiah Jackson will take on the role of PG. Remember Hewitt likes his guys to have length so that way players can switch up guarding other players at other positions if needed(interchangeable defense). The only way Myles Tate gets his chance to shine is if Moore or Jackson get injured. Most of us would not like that to happen. At best he will get to play the garbage minutes. He is a pure walk on in Hewitt's eyes.

It's unfortunate that we do not want to see Moore or Jackson injured?!? I disagree...

I think Tate will get a few minutes a game as the 3rd PG option, at least until Edwards is healthy (or maybe even after).

Myles Tate is a nice luxury to have. I was impressed with his play in the green and gold scrimmage and the exhibition game. There's no question he's third on the depth chart at the point, but he's a capable third option. We can take it slow with Corey these first two games, if necessary.

Ooops I see my mistake. What I meant to say is that Myles Tate will only play major minutes if Moore or Jackson get injured. However that is not something we want to happen. At best he will play the garbage minutes. That is what I meant to say.
