All I have to say is coach said Javon was going to be the break out player this year and by the way he played tonight he was the worst player on the court on both ends.... Reuter has stone hands but great vision... hopefully they figure out lineups for Tuesday... JDS has a beautiful looking shot but was 0-2 in like 3 total mins played.. can't quite figure that out.

Well, uummmm. That was totally underwhelming. If we don't extract heads from a$$es and take the game seriously we will not beat Penn.

Good thing we played an exhibition game....if that was the first performance against Penn they would have blown us out of our own building.

Just finished talking with the manager for Johns Hopkins, who is a med student. The official diagnosis for the evening according to JH staff is that the Patriots were suffering from a case of CRIS (Cranial - Rectal Inversion Syndrome) with acute TAS (Trifecta Anxiety Syndrome), basically a fear of making a 3 point shot. There is hope and a cure, we can only hope that the team seeks immediate treatment. ;)

This scrimmage made me worry that Rueter is not the missing link to success. The force multiplier currently is a simple asset. Here's hoping we are seeing an ugly duckling turn into a beautiful swan.

My biggest disappointment tonight was Reuter. He should have dominated tonight with the size on the other team. He was so powerful during those open practices but looked soft tonight.

I mean he had 10 points 11 boards, I know the competition is crap but for not being in a game for over a year that’s not too bad. I think the team couldn’t find an offensive rhythm all night, fortunately they let their defense dictate the game. Lots of work to do, but it’s november and I’m sure they’ll improve.

I mean Reuter was getting blocked and stripped by 6 ft 3 dudes that weighed less than 150 all night... free throw line he was great... otherwise very underwhelming

Fair enough, I mean hopefully he shakes the rust off as the season goes. I suspect he will be just fine, and he got what he got tonight in his first action back.

My biggest concern with Reuter is his footwork and propensity for traveling. Saw it in Spain. See it still now.

We certainly didn't look like world beaters tonight, for sure. But both Kier and Otis looked good and made some spectacular drives. The 3 point shooting was terrible, it goes without saying.

For perspective, we shot threes for a hair under 33% last year, with Otis, Jaire, and Gonar at 35% or better. So that means another 4 or 5 "makes" on an average night. Now you're talking about a 20+ pt win instead of struggling to get to a double digit win. One thing the team did well doing, was finding the open man. Most of the threes we took were wide open.....the misses resulted in a low number of assists as well.

The other major issue was the turnovers....14 of the 21 in the first half. A lot of work ahead.

If I know anything about a Paulsen squad, they generally get better as the season goes along, so I'm not going to worry about this one.

I agree but what concerns me is we returned everybody from last year, added Reuter and some good freshmen AND we had the advantage of an oversees trip that enabled us to play games and practice early (not to mention build chemistry). The unforced turnovers and missed wide-open shots were very surprising.

There's always going to be rust in the first game (exhibition or not), but I don't think anybody saw that performance coming tonight against an undersized D3 team. Lots to work on, but the positive like you said is that we have a lot of time to work on it.

Not worried about Reuter — this was his first (non-Spanish) basketball game in nearly two years and there’s bound to be some rust that needs to get knocked off.

That said, he needs to be much stronger with the ball and everyone needs to do a better job of making the simple play. About 15 of our turnovers directly resulted from guys trying to pass to someone who wasn’t open or driving into traffic unnecessarily.

I felt like everyone was trying to do too much and forcing offense instead of being patient and keeping the ball moving. Zero rhythm or flow. And of course missing every open shot didn’t help.

I remain interested to see how our guys deal with significantly elevated expectations this season. Much easier to play loose and aggressive when you’re the underdog. Gotta get their minds right and fast.

Everyone thinks Otis is getting a break this with the added depth. I think he has to work even harder but in a different dept in order to get the rest of these guys' minds right. Didn't watch the game but it sounds like nerves were frazzled a bit.

It probably helped because it was an actual game atmosphere and simulation, but there are probably other factors that don't make it quite like an D1 NCAA game. I suspect there will be improvement as the season goes along. I wouldn't worry about it.
