After the game, the video board was showing Game 7 and the Green Machine played Baby Shark/Take Me Out to the Ballgame. Great rendition and should be in their song rotation

I have a feeling we will see Mar playing as a stretch 5 this year. He obviously doesn't have the body of a center, but he had success as a freshman playing down low.

And you were expecting it to be after one whole exhibition game into the season?

We played 95% pack line defense under DP right? He tried pressure man last year and it failed. Im all for creating so.e turnovers for pts but im questioning if that zone press is going to stick. I hope it does and he finally figures things out.

The word "finally" in there bugs me. You seem to be acting like the previous few years have been worse than one should expect, when the team has improved every single season Paulsen has been here.

I think noticing that we did the 1-2-2 zone (Miller) after a made basket for nearly all of the first half. I'm not sure that we got a lot of turnovers off of that, but we didn't give up easy baskets either.

On the other hand, I don't think we used it in the second half. However, our defensive rotations (hedging hard outside and recovering) seemed as good as I ever have seen it. Granted Catholic is Division 3 and not particularly quick, but they seldom had open shots in the second half (only scored one 3 in the first 11 minutes of the second half--no other points). The defense really throttled them.

Regardless of system, there is no excuse why we shouldn’t be a good defensive team this season.

We do have some young guys in the rotation, but we have solid defenders at all five positions with no glaring mismatches and it’s the first time we can say that since Larranaga left.

Some other random notes from the exhibition game:
  • Both AJ and Greg tried more back-to-the-basket moves than in the past. Reasonable moves, but didn't convert in the first half; more success in the second half.
  • Hartwell made a first half buzzer-beater, banking one in from one stride inside half-court. I think all the rest of his 3s were taken in the second half. Almost looked like he was under orders to launch a 3 whenever he was open. A couple of them seemed a bit ill-advised, coming early in the shot clock (although in truth, he made at least one of those). Seemed contrary to his normal style of being a facilitator first, shooter second.
  • Calixte got his 2d foul with 8 minutes to go in the first half and his 3d 30 seconds into the second half. Oduro filled in well but also picked up a couple of fouls in each half.
  • Foul shooting needs a lot of work....missing Otis and Justin a lot
  • Scored over 70 and Glory Days is still running the deal for free wings when you spend $5--good for 4 days after the points are scored. So you bandwagon Nats fans can still collect assuming you didn't throw your tickets away!
  • Mar and Oduro were the first guys off the bench at the 15 min mark of the first half replacing AJ and Greg
  • JDS didn't make an appearance until the last 4 min of the first half. Scored off a strong move to the hoop in the second half and has a nice assist as well
  • Some nice assists from AJ,Greg, Goanar as well
  • Jordan is still really good hitting the offensive boards and scored off of a few of them. Had a couple of others roll off as well.

Forgot to mention the video that featured John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever mode walking down the street to Staying Alive intercut with Coach Paulsen, wearing the style of the times, doing the same thing. Well done and funny, I thought!

Also the introductory video was shorter (satisfying those who thought last year's was a bit over-the-top) and focused on clips of the starters.

Video made by Liem Le, who many of you have enjoyed a beer or 2 with. He’ll be shooting for us all season. If you’re looking to contribute, shoot me a DM, we have big things in the works for this year.

We are finalizing a partnership that will send us to most away games including Caymen Islands And TCU (can’t wait to ask Grayer if he quit on us ;)) This being said, we also need more content creators, let us know!

Great video Liem, it got me so hyped, that Greene slowmo dunk!
