Will be interesting to see if more one-bid leagues follow in suit.

BTW I’m told the MAAC is requiring the four teams that make the league semis to remain in Atlantic City, test daily and quarantine as a safeguard so there are backup teams, should the champ and the runner-up both wind up being incapable of traveling to Indy for the NCAAT. twitter.com/MattNorlander/…

To sum it up: Richmond had a staff member test positive 2 days before the game, no close contacts. Then an injured player test positive before the game, Richmond said no close contacts, SLU pulled out, PR war ensued. Then 2 days after the game, multiple UR players test positive

A COVID shutdown at this point can be a season-ender, as has now happened to Charleston Southern MBB; their WBB team can't return to competition until March 4, which is two days before the Big South tourney is scheduled to begin

Just contacted CSU about 2 things. Answers to my questions.

1- Big South basketball tourney game won’t be rescheduled, so it’s in essence a forfeit for CSU- season over.

2- Baseball not listed on here, but included in the shutdown. twitter.com/seisbergwciv/s…

J.D. Collins also told me that the restrictions for the officials in Indianapolis next month for the NCAA tournament will be “as tight or tighter than everybody else.”

Just talked to NCAA National Coordinator of Officials J.D. Collins - who said that there have been fewer than 10 games canceled or postponed due to referees this ENTIRE SEASON. He praised both officials and league coordinators, and rightfully so. Incredible job by officials.

Interesting document here. To oversimplify: there will be four "standby" teams that didn't make the field that will be at the ready to step in for a team that can't' play. So we kinda/sorta have a field of 72 this year.

https://fordhamsports.com/news/2021...nce-game-at-george-washington-on-march-4.aspx:

"Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham women's basketball, George Washington, and the Atlantic 10 have announced a nonconference match-up between the Rams and Colonials for next Thursday, March 4, in Washington, D.C. Tip-off from the Smith Center is set for 5 p.m. with ESPN+ carry live coverage.

Owners of five straight league victories, including its most recent at home against Saint Joseph's on February 12, Fordham had to pause all team activities due to a campus-wide pause due to New York state's COVID-19 protocols. The Rams' five remaining conference contests were all postponed as a result. Fordham is currently tied for second place in the Atlantic 10 standings with an 8-2 in-conference record, 11-3 overall.

This will be the first time the two schools have ever met in nonconference action."

11 players is a ton, especially for an illness that often has lingering effects and can take a significant amount of time to get over

Travis notes that most years, the committee gives teams the benefit of the doubt for losses when the best players are out/hurt.

"We had 11 players test positive and went 28 days without practice."

Should count for something.

I read there were some programs that had all 13 players test positive.

I polled 37 likely at-large teams anonymously to find out how many scholarship players have tested positive for COVID-19: 241 of 464 players (53 percent) have tested positive thus far. One of the 37 teams has not had any positives. One also has had all 13 test positive.

MEAC No. 1 seed NC A&T is out of the league tourney due to COVID positive test. Brutal for a team that was favored to go to NCAA tourney. Now winner of NC Central-Norfolk State gets bye into title game.

BREAKING: 6 top referees - including Ted Valentine, John Higgins and Roger Ayers - have been sent home from Indy due to one positive test and contact tracing, sources told @stadium. They went to dinner after hotel rooms not ready. STORY:

Six NCAA Tournament Referees Ruled Out Due to COVID-19 Protocols
The NCAA brought 60 officials to Indianapolis to work the NCAA Tournament during March Madness.
watchstadium.com

"Six of college basketball’s top officials for the NCAA Tournament — including Ted Valentine, John Higgins and Roger Ayers — have been removed from the NCAA Tournament due to one positive COVID-19 test, resulting in contact tracing involving the others.

The NCAA brought 60 officials instead of the normal 100 to Indianapolis to work the NCAA Tournament during March Madness. One of the protocols in place was that the referees were not allowed to leave the hotel once they arrived unless it was to go to the arena.

The referees were told to arrive by Sunday night and check into their hotel, but multiple officials said that the rooms weren’t ready upon their arrival, nor was there any food. Instead of having the officials wait in a secure area, they were allowed to leave for dinner and the group of Valentine, Higgins, Ayers, John Gaffney, Kipp Kissinger and Ray Natili all went to Harry & Izzy’s steakhouse in downtown Indianapolis.

Upon their return to the hotel, they took COVID-19 tests and one of the referees tested positive, sources told Stadium. He then tested twice on Monday morning, and tested positive.

Due to the fact that they ate together and weren’t wearing masks, the Indiana Department of Health deemed them unable to work in the NCAA Tournament.

Higgins has worked eight Final Fours, Valentine has worked six, Ayers has done three and Kissinger has worked one."
