GIVING DAY 2023
AJ is a born leader and will have the team on his back this year just like last. Hope he can stay healthy and get some help from the rest of the starters. He is poised for a huge senior season

I know there's a few of us that are constantly hyping AJ up, but the dude is the real deal. I can't remember a more complete player than AJ since maybe Ryan Pearson. I honestly believe that barring a huge drop off, AJ should be getting NBA looks. He's probably the most under the radar star in the A10, maybe mid-major basketball as a whole. I'm fully onboard the AJ hype train and I'm stoked to watch him dunk and put his nuts on some dude from vcu's chin this season. Love that his individual goal is the be the A10 MVP. Swag. Can't believe he put on another 13 lbs, has to be up close to 30 since his sophomore season. Really glad to hear that he's working with Malik and that Malik see's himself as filling AJs shoes his sophomore season.

I admittedly have not been super high on Miller, but damn bulking up 13 lbs is legit. I thought that last season we were looking at his ceiling. A long, not super athletic guy who can be crafty to get to the rim but get bullied once he got up there, who can hit an open corner 3. Dude looks like a legit A10 3 now, would love for him to prove me wrong. I think a lot of what I viewed as his shortcomings last season can be fixed by just being stronger. Don't see him getting bullied as much anymore on the offensive or defensive end. If he makes a jump similar to Kier between his sophomore and junior seasons then we'll have 3 legit scoring options on the starting 5 (AJ, Javon, Miller). Still a little bit of a quesion mark in my mind but we really need him to be good offensively this year if we are going to have a shot.

Please basketball gods give us a season. I will personally keep Brions afloat if they can stream ESPN+ there.

I love the thought of what AJ is capable of. I too think he has a shot at the NBA. If we are comparing him to Ryan Pearson after this season, then he will have had a special season. Pearson is Top 5 all time Mason great.

Sources: Several mid-major conferences are inquiring about the minimum number of games required to qualify for the 2021 NCAA Tournament so they can determine the importance of their non-conference schedule.

This would be a saving grace for our pitiful OoC this year, screw it im all for it.

If we can do a bubble tournament (Junkanoo Jam) followed by an 18 game conference schedule followed by a bubble conference tournament that’s 22 games (more if you advance). Not the worst scenario if we can pull off the conference travel.

Yeah Brad Edwards needs to call in every favor he can imagine to get us in an early season bubble tournament.

I’m talking full Fyre Fest. Offer up sexual favors from Darryl Greene.

I think AJ Wilson will not get serious NBA looks and I base this hypothesis entirely on the fact that I am completely sane and have previously attended an NBA game.

One time at an NBA game I got Bill Laimbeer to sign an autograph for my friend Dave because I yelled Dave was retarded when in fact Dave IS NOT retarded but what was so funny is that Big Bill couldn't tell the difference.

Remember when it was okay to yell that word in crowded arenas? Lord we MADE A LIVING yelling that at Sam Harris in multiple cities for what seems like an eternity!!

Another time I was at a game and we sat in front of Chris Tucker. Who would have thunk one of Epstein's alleged clients had worse seats than me that day to see Michael Jordan?

Those days are past now. The only thing I really enjoy now is mason hoops.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, if AJ follows his dreams, anything can happen.

Whenever anyone brings up a 6’7 - 6’8 guy who they believe has a shot at playing in the NBA, especially someone who is an interior player, I always end up thinking “Lebron is 6’9, 250, and he can dribble. Durant is 6’11 and probably a Top 5-10 3-point shooter in the league. Wtf is AJ going to do against someone like that.”

Obviously I just named 2 of the top 5 best players in the world, but they both play (or atleast defend) that 4-spot the majority of the time. If AJ wants any shot at the league, his shooting, ball handling, and quickness will have to improve 10-fold. Yves Pons is probably 30 pounds heavier, has a more consistent outside shot, was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, has more hops than AJ, and he’s considered a Late First Rounder at best. I love AJ and what he does for Mason, but people need to be realistic about the level of player and athlete that occupy NBA roster spots.

AJ would have to be able to play small forward for sure, which means being able to defend the 2-4 slots if necessary. That’s a tough ask, but he certainly has the work ethic to improve in most of the areas you mention. and at 6’7 225 he’s around the body size of someone line Draymond Green.

All that aside, teams don't take a real look at RS seniors too often. If there is a path to the NBA, it would be through the g-league.

I think its far more likely that AJ could be a g-league roster filler for a few years with no chance to make an NBA roster no matter how well he plays. Then end up in Europe when he realizes that the NBA won't ever touch him, similar to Shevon Thompson.

Side note - my favorite non-Mason college basketball player of all time was Darius Rice. Rice, at 6-10, scored (a record at the time) 52 points on 11 3-pointers in a g-league championship game. Height, shooting, clutch performer, pedigree (Jerry Rice's nephew). Sounds like a guy that should've gotten at least one "prove-it" 10-day contract, right? Nope.

tough with G League big men as most NBA teams send down one or two projects they keep on NBA roster... lot of guys getting called up from G League are scoring guards. AJ should go to Europe and make a lot of money. I have a buddy who plays in Lithuania and makes over 1million Euros a year and he was not half as good in college as AJ and they play the same position. Troy Barnies

https://www.espn.com/college-footba...sgiving-weekend-start-option-big-ten-football:

"The Big Ten is discussing Thanksgiving weekend as one of several options to start its football season, sources tell ESPN.

An early January start with an eight- or nine-game schedule at indoor venues has generated the most discussion so far, but pushing the season kickoff to around Thanksgiving also is under consideration."

"Alvarez said a winter season, not a spring season, is the focus for the Big Ten. Indoor venues such as Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ford Field in Detroit and U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis are being considered to host Big Ten games.

Big Ten coaches such as Ohio State's Ryan Day and Penn State's James Franklin have pushed for the season to start in early January and wrap up before the NFL draft. Several Big Ten coaches told ESPN that a top priority with the delayed season should be not disrupting the fall 2021 season."

Why not just wait until after finals? Our semester ends on Dec 4 and finals week is the following week. I would guess a lot of schools have similar schedules.

Very cool idea by FIU AD Pete Garcia. FIU students will be given 1st priority for all tickets for home football games this fall. Still working w/campus officials to determine what capacity will be allowed for each game

If fans are allowed to attend basketball games this season I hope the opposite happens at GMU. Over the years I have given tens of thousands of dollars to the university. I'm going to be selfish for once and hope that season ticket holders are given first crack. As poor as our attendance has been we could probably have all season ticket holders AND some students in EBA. Time will tell.

We have 500 students who have already tested positive for COVID within 2 weeks of opening. Maybe the AD just wants to make sure the infection stays at the university?

UCF is up close to 1,000 so far.
