I'm getting pretty tired of reading Lamar Butler shit talk our school. I get it. They've done some things that pissed you off. Me too. No need to pile on on twitter. Talking about "why would anyone choose Mason?". I'm all for reparing relationships, but he's got a vendetta. Good luck extending that olive branch.

I don't have a problem with these tweets:

It's going to be extremely difficult no matter who the next coach is. Why would a recruit choose GMU over the top half of the league? And how do you fix that?

I'll root for anybody that's hired at GMU. But the L era coaches, deserve a shot.

It's really not rocket science. vcu is a constant reminder that succes has a blue print.

It's extremely difficult for me to have kids I coach overlook my alma mater and go to other A-10 schools. Especially out of state schools.

Will @CoachTonySkinn be considered? Will coaches from the Coach L tree be considered? Or are we denying the most successful era of GMU basketball another opportunity?

Ok, maybe I only saw the more negative ones and jumped to a conclusion. But I get the feeling that he is as interested in burning this program to the ground as he is in helping build it back up. Very volatile components here.

GIVING DAY 2023
New people Kim English followed today:

Dalonte Hill: Southern Miss Assistant Coach (from DC)
Chris Cole: Bryant University Assistant Coach (from Maryland)
...
...
...
...
Tony Skinn.

Hill:

"Prior to his time in Tennessee, he coached three years at Maryland (2011-13) helping the Terrapins rebuild with back-to-back top-25 signing classes in 2012 and 2013. He had luck in pulling in local standouts such as Melo Trimble to help Mark Turgeon bring the Terrapins back to prominence. "

Cole:

"Cole arrives in Smithfield after spending five seasons as the head coach of Rock Creek Christian Academy in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Rock Creek recorded a Washington Post top-five ranking in four of Cole's five seasons at the helm and cracked the USA Today Top 25 in 2017. Cole was four-time CBAA Coach of the Year for a team with three CBAA championships, three Maryland state runner-up seasons and four CBAA Player of the Year honorees."

Hmm ... let's just *hypothetically* (seriously, calm down, it's fun) say this is a coaching staff that lands at Mason...

Tony as head assistant?
Recruit the sh*t out of the DMV?

Could be a winning formula.

GIVING DAY 2023
I have a different theory bouncing around in my head. I think Brad initially expected Paulsen to tank this year and then he would have been easy to fire. Then Paulsen had his little run at the end, putting things in doubt. Because of this, Brad doesn't make any moves to have him fired at the end of the year. Then Paulsen won his first game in the tourney, too. At this point, Paulsen had the horrific performance in the final game of the season. I think that put the thought back into Brad's head. Then, Brad meets with Paulsen to do a status of the program and it probably could have gone either way. Paulsen says ho hum stuff (like we really progressed at the end of the year, practiced well, we will make incremental improvements, they are good kids). This isn't the firey stuff that Brad is looking to hear to convince him Paulsen has to stay. He leaves the meeting feeling queasy and freaked out and realizes he needs to replace Paulsen to have any chance of improving the team and saving his job and long term AD at a football school dreams. He has been caught flat footed and now needs to write up a justification for Dr. W that Paulsen needs to go and to pay his severance package. This took the time from the last game of the season until yesterday.

This theory, to me, would better explain the delay in firing Paulsen. Now, though, I hope your theory is more right than mine.

P.S. This is completely made up based on no facts other than what I read on the boards here and guessing what Brad is thinking. You would have thought I would have learned my lesson about speculating on poeple's actions, but I guess I haven't.

Purely a guess, but the timing works for Jay Marsh having played a primary role in back-channel conversations with Rick Barnes and then Kim English to gauge his interest in our job prior to Marsh’s retirement.

The delay in Paulsen’s firing could be attributed to Edwards and English taking time to quietly finalize the terms of his contract — I can see Brad wanting to have an attractive new coach on the hook before formally asking Dr. Washington to buy out Dave’s last year.

Betting we will have an announcement 48-72 hours after Tennessee is knocked out of the NCAA tournament.

The only way we get Tony even as the No. 1 assistant is if there’s some kind of unwritten agreement that he’s the next HC if English kills it and takes a P5 job. And even then it’s extremely unlikely.

More likely the new coach retains Simpkins than convinces Skinn to leave the Big East for basically the same job.

Oh yeah, for sure.

That's the first thing that popped into my head. English kills it, takes over at Mizzou, Tony is "next man up."

Obviously just a fun hypothetical, but those recent Twitter follows definitely make you go hmm...

If it comes down to Tony or English and they both interview well, I would rather have Tony. Maybe Tony will bring English on as an assistant.

Given where each is an assistant - I don't see that. English seems himself leaving Tenn for a head coaching position. Tony would do feel the same. Bringing both in - over or under - is a prescription for instability
