"Mattox began his career at MSU in 2013-14 as a graduate manager and eventually earned his way up to associate head coach for the 2021-22 season. He spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Murray State."

Sources: Cornell is promoting longtime assistant coach and current associate head coach Jon Jaques to become the school’s next head coach. He’s spent 12 years as a Cornell assistant and also worked a graduate assistant for Kyle Smith at Columbia.

"The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vice President and Director of Athletics Chasse Conque announced on Friday the hiring of Kahil Fennell (pronounced kuh-HILL fuh-NELL), who spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at BYU, as the new head men’s basketball coach."

"Boasting 21 seasons of experience coaching at the collegiate and international levels and bringing a resume that features 12 postseason appearances, 10 conference players of the year, 72 all-conference selections, and teams with a penchant for winning at home—his teams have won 168 games at home over the past 12 seasons—Marty Richter has been named the 11th head coach of the USC Upstate men’s basketball program."

"Richter joins the Spartan program following a historic six-season stint as an assistant coach at Drake, helping the Bulldogs to 150 victories, five postseason appearances, including three NCAA Tournament appearances, and three Missouri Valley Conference Championships. An integral part of former Drake and current West Virginia head coach Darian DeVries’ staff, Richter tutored 15 Bulldogs to 47 total All-Missouri Valley Conference honors with at least one Bulldog winning each of the league’s six major postseason awards at least once during his tenure."

Tennessee fires women's coach Kelly Harper after going 108-52, with NCAA appearances all 5 years (UT has never not made tourney) and a couple of sweet sixteens.

Her predecessor Holly Warlick went 172-67 in 7 seasons and similar results and was let go too.

Talk about expectations........

"FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas men’s basketball coaching search looks to be moving past Ole Miss coach Chris Beard, who reportedly withdrew from consideration Friday.

Jon Rothstein of CBS first reported Beard will be staying at Ole Miss amid reports that he was a favorite for the Arkansas opening. Rothstein also reported Kansas State coach Jerome Tang has emerged as the favorite in the Razorbacks' search to replace departed coach Eric Musselman.

Beard appeared to commit his future to Ole Miss on social media without referencing Arkansas."

"Tang recently completed his second season in charge of the Wildcats, where he has a record of 45-24. Kansas State went 19-15 overall and 8-10 in Big 12 play this season.

Tang's Wildcats finished 26-10 in his first season and advanced to the Elite Eight. He was an assistant coach at Baylor under coach Scott Drew for 19 seasons and was part of the 2021 national championship team.

According to the Wichita Eagle, Tang recently signed a contract extension with the Wildcats that runs until the 2029-30 season with a salary of $3.1 million. His buyout is $6 million and drops to $5 million at the end of April."

I understand the outside perspective on this, but donor support was becoming non-existent and she was unwilling to adjust her staff. Sweet 16 is not the standard here.

"According to multiple reports, Fresno State will hire veteran coach Vance Walberg to lead the Bulldogs men’s basketball program. Most recently, Walberg has been the head coach at Clovis West HS (CA), but has had a long career as an NBA assistant and college coach. He served as the head coach at Pepperdine (2006-08) and spent 2012-16 as an NBA assistant with three different teams. More on this move once it becomes official."

"John Calipari is finalizing a five-year deal to become the next coach at Arkansas, sources told ESPN on Sunday night, a blockbuster move that will shake up the SEC and college basketball landscape.

The deal is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours.

Calipari is the second-highest-paid coach in the country at Kentucky, earning more than $8.5 million per year. Arkansas is believed to have offered Ole Miss' Chris Beard in the neighborhood of $5 million when it pursued him following Eric Musselman's decision last week to leave for USC, sources told ESPN.

After Musselman left for USC, Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek pursued Beard and Kansas State's Jerome Tang, although both coaches returned to their respective schools.

Calipari has been under more pressure at Kentucky than at any other time during his tenure, as the Wildcats haven't been out of the first weekend of the NCAA tournament since 2019 and suffered upset losses to 15-seed Saint Peter's and 14-seed Oakland in recent years."

"Kentucky would have owed Calipari more than $33 million if it were to fire him but the school isn't owed any money if another program hires him away from Lexington."

"SLU is flexing its financial muscles in hiring Schertz. Multiple media outlets have reported that Schertz’s deal with SLU is in the range of $2 million per year over 6 years, which is a huge jump over the $350,000 he was making at Indiana State. Terre Haute Sports 10 reporter Rick Semmler reported that SLU’s NIL commitments were also big in wooing Schertz, tweeting that SLU is expected to have nearly $1 million more in NIL than ISU would be able to offer.

The majority of those NIL resources will likely go to attempting to bring Schertz’s starters at ISU to SLU, should they go into the portal. All five starters have eligibility remaining, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see anywhere from three to five starters follow Schertz. However, it is also likely that many of those starters will be offered enormous sums of cash by various other schools, and it’s never smart to try to predict the actions of 18-22 year olds. However, should any of the starters want to follow Schertz, there certainly will be room for them. SLU graduated two players who are out of eligibility, one player left the program midseason, and four Billikens are in the transfer portal, with more potentially to enter."
