Is that good?
If it's a "record," it must be good for us. No idea how it stacks up to other schools.

Yes it is good. Especially in a year when donations have been down in academia across the board - this is a solid posting by the Administration. Is that good?

solid trend!Some comparison data:
https://newsdesk.gmu.edu/2013/08/university-raises-47-million-in-fiscal-year-2013/
"George Mason University’s Office of University Development raised nearly $47 million in gifts and pledges during fiscal year 2013, exceeding the previous year’s total by nearly $5 million".
So it's 42...47....54.

Here's some numbers for institutions in Virginia from 2013 (see p. 34).

The numbers for Mason are a little different than my previous post, but they're pretty close. It does give some sense of how we're doing compared to other schools in the state--much better than ODU, JMU, worse than vcu (probably a med school effect, not a basketball effect), about half of Va Tech's donations, and about 20% of UVA.
Viva Cabrera!
Despite everything that Merten did to stabilize Mason's finances and expand the campus, I can't help but think that Cabrera is exactly what the university needs to take the next step and completely eliminate the "commuter school" stigma.
No more stodgy academics, thank you very much.
