Brad Edwards Named New Athletic Director

From my sources in the AD - the weight is not the problem. The problem is as follows:
The roof was put in in the 80s when current codes (ADA, Fire, etc.) were not what they are today. If a scoreboard is put in that weighs more than the current scoreboard (or our previous one - that one and this one weigh the same) the roof would have to be brought up to current codes. For that to occur, the building would need to be shutdown for several months, to essentially redo the entire roof, at a cost that a.) would be similar to that of a new arena and b.) would require a shutdown of the PC for such a long time that significant revenue would be lost to the university and the ath dept.

One word: Helium

I feel like I read some place that the roof will meet its life expectancey soon and will have to be replaced. Also I know they upgraded the rigging that holds the new score board so that it can hold the weight of a much heavier one once the roof project is complete. I'm pretty sure Pikap has all the info on the roof project.

I would spend the money on replacing the seats. All black seats will look better on TV. All those fans dressed as empty yellow seats won't be as noticeable.

Yes, the hard plastic Yellow and Green seats desperately need to be replaced!

From what I see in the capital request form, we are asking 6.9 million to replace the roof.

Also apparently they are going to demolish Robinson.

Also replacing the chairs would be nice, but we don't want people to be too comfortable sitting down.

Demolish Robinson Hall? Surely not. King Hall needs to go however, that is one ugly building.

Check it out. It's right there in the 6 year plan. 96 million dollar price tag.

I think I also saw something about King, but I'd have to look again.

I think it is one part of Robinson. Not both parts. King is not that bad. It was renovated a few years ago and there were plans to expand it.

GIVING DAY 2023
Brad Edwards participated in Michael Wilbon's 12th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic in MD today; rocking a Mason pullover, of course.

Making connections, networking, establishing relationships. Whatever you want to call it, I like it.

Edit: Hewitt also participated.

I do like that BE seems to be more out there and in the media. Then again, maybe he is a little more in demand than TOC was, given his football days

I have no idea what he did media wise in Jacksonville......but it seems that would be a benefit of having a former Redskin as the AD in the DC area. He's going to have that slight edge with media attention whether or not it is necessarily about Mason.

In the end...all good IMO.

Last night I witnessed him do exactly what I think we all hope for. Just after halftime he was introduced to two prospects in suits by the Patriot Club staff. He glad handed with them and sat with them the entire second half of the game making small talk. Hopefully he did his best Mariano Rivera at the end of the game and closed them on a sponsorship of some sort.

Charles Mann sat courtside with Edwards the entire Davidson game last week. Nice to see the former teammates reunited, although I'm sure Edwards was humiliated after we failed to win despite being up 6 points with 21 seconds left.
