Washington 52
That's just their second game after a 2-3 week covid pause, but still... not doing us any favors.

There's always one loss every year that drives me absolutely bonkers for years after the fact. Washington and ODU are early leaders for this season.

This isn't a power school, but Cal State Northridge lost to Bethesda University 82-80 last night.
Surprisingly, Bethesda U (a NCCAA school) isn't in Bethesda, MD........

I had to look up "NCCAA" - it's the National Christian College Athletic Association.

Northridge, CA- The Bethesda University men's basketball team pulled off another upset of NCAA D1 program Cal State Northridge. The Lion Angels are only the second non-NCAA/NAIA program in basketball history to register two wins against an NCAA D1 opponent. Before tonight's win, the Lion Angels first defeated CSUN in 2016 when they were still nicknamed the Flames. The only other program to achieve the same feat was Tennessee Temple Univiversity in Chatanooga, Tennesse. Temple posted two wins against Tennessee Tech in 1979 and 1997.

How much longer before GA's coach is in a hot seat.

"YOUR CHAIR IS ON FIRE, SIR

Coaches at the end of the line at their current school. You should be seeing them here soon enough.

  • Tom Crean (Georgia)
    • The red flags have been piling up in Athens, namely the mass exodus this offseason that included the six leading scorers among eight Bulldogs leaving UGA. Crean finished 13th in the SEC with #1 overall pick Anthony Edwards and then “improved” last year to finish 10th at 14-12 (7-11). Recruiting, which has always been a calling card for Crean in his career, has also fallen off: last year’s class was good but two freshmen are now gone, and this year’s class ranks 11th in the SEC (59th nationally). Crean had to fill out his roster with transfers and while there are some promising names in the bunch, the Bulldogs are basically a brand new team that SEC media projects to finish dead last. He’s got two years left on his deal, but UGA would only be on the hook for $1.6M (just half of Crean’s salary) if they were to fire him in 2022."
  • "WE’VE GOT OUR EYE ON YOU, COACH

Here are those guys that are having a rough year (or two… or three…) but aren’t in total danger. Yet.
  • Jim Larrañaga (Miami FL)
    • Now 72 years old, Larrañaga’s contributions to both Miami and the larger college basketball world are undeniable. But after three-straight losing seasons and 0 NCAA Tournament wins since the 2016 Sweet Sixteen run, it’s time for Coach to call it a career. He’s under contract through 2024 (buyout details not public) but the game has changed and the best move now for both parties is for Larrañaga to step down on his own terms so Miami can bring in a younger coach to build this program for the future."

Gardner Webb beat the dog shit out of Georgia tonight — that win not looking so good now.

ESPN/Lunardi on being cautious in defining a "bad loss"

"The aforementioned UCLA Bruins of Walton and Wooden once made the cover of Sports Illustrated for losing two of two on an Oregon swing. Yet I'm here to tell you that this season (and most others), a ton of non-Power Five teams -- George Mason and Saint Louis, Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount, Missouri State and Southern Illinois -- are better than the likes of Oregon State, NC State or Georgetown. Losing at their gym is no crime against the sport. Indeed, it's just as hard -- if not harder -- to win in Carbondale as it is in Corvallis."
