Walk-On
I am so impressed by the outreach the band does when they are traveling. For those who don't know, they played not only at, but with a high school band in NY this week. Great for Mason, fantastic experience for the HS kids. Consider pledging some $$ to the Green Machine. Amazing work by amazing people.

I was at VT's games this week at the VZ Center and echo the comments on the pep bands. VT, FSU, and Miami's pep bands are light years away from what we have at Mason. Never take for granite for what we have in a pep band, Our band is really unreal.

Open up those check books fellas

The kiss of death is going down the Marching Band route. (with the exception of HBCUs, which typically have kick a$$ marching bands, drum lines, etc.) That is what I saw with UVa last night...a part of a marching band in uniform (polo shirts and khakis) sitting in folding chairs. We must never go down this route. If we ever get football, have the Green Machine play from the stands.

That Palm guy on the CBS site is showing four - the Bonnies, vcu, St. Joe's and Dayton.

Bonnies with a 9 seed, too, which is comfortably in. We will see tonight, but they certainly didn't do themselves any favors losing to Davidson in the quarterfinals.

If vcu loses this game and still gets in that's props to the A10. They didn't have any good out of conference wins, lost to UMass and us. So that means along as you finish top 4 A10 you should be good.

Every time vcu plays a team with decent guards, they lose. Even when shaka-con was there. They should be left out. Btw blame should be put squarely on the loss at Mason. :middlefinger:

Wow, St. Joes shoots over 64% from the field to win by 13. Imagine the score if they had shot their FTs.

Texas and vcu are in the same bracket but the committee doesn't pair them up to play......

Do schools not have to separate bands? Genuinely don't know. Figured these would be separate entities with maybe a few overlapping kids. I can only hope it's a problem we have sooner rather than later.

I believe there might be some schools that do that, but one is most likely a subset of the other. We have a pep band, and not only a pep band, but THE pep band. Doc Nix and the Green Machine are magnificent ambassadors for Mason and we need to keep them out front. My concern with marching band is that it is boring and bland and over time university administrators like that because it is PC. Marching band at UVa was a tool to push out the scramble or pep band, which had been in place from 1974-2003.
