Any chance John Crosby commits to Mason? He was suppose to commit to Mason like 4 months ago but I guess he wanted to wait for more/ better offers?!?! A lot of the recruits that have gotten offers from Mason have rejected Mason and committed to other schools. At this point in the year the chances of landing a gem recruit whether its a freshman or a transfer is starting to dwindle.

I would have to agree that just getting one out of the three Maryland transfers would be a good steal. However I'm sure there are bigger name schools that are going to try and court them. Mason right now has only two things to sell to these three transfers. The 2006 final four run that keeps getting mentioned over and over again and Paul Hewitt's ability to sent lots of talented players to the NBA.

Mason's last NCAA appearance was back in 2011 and three seasons not being in the NIT or NCAA hurts our chances of landing a gem transfer athlete. An earlier post mentioned that not all players want to play for a big name school or a school that makes postseason tournaments annually. Players sometimes will choose lesser schools because there is a chance they will get to play good minutes and make an impact immediately.

But with these three Maryland players being 4 star recruits, I think deep down they want to play for a school where they know thier contributions will produce a NCAA or NIT bid. Something interesting I also want to point out. If you read the Maryland blogs, alot of fans are bashing how much of a terrible coach Mark Turgeon is. Examples include Mark Turgeon's offense and dumping random lineups of players onto the court. Sounds familiar? .......Hewitt....cough*

Peters has the most upside of the departing Terps and would give us much-needed help at the point. Plus, he'd have 3 years of eligibility remaining. If we could sign him and give him next year to work on his game, it would be a huge steal.

But as we were discussing, I think it's gonna be difficult for Hewitt to land any transfers at this point. Given his contract status and a new AD coming in, everybody knows he's a lame duck unless he and the team do something truly unexpected next season.

Why would any transfer with options choose to sign with Mason at this point?

At least one of the ex-Terps is probably gonna wind up at GW.

Lonergan has done well with transfers, and they could use Peters in their backcourt along with McDonald and Savage.

They are definitely still in the mix for him, hope he comes to his senses!

I thought Mason told him they were going to wait? Besides, he could of signed elsewhere by now. Kinda ironic. How we need a PG, but get one with no jump shot, then give the stiff arm to the overall decent one.

Yeah Peters is a local kid (Suitland MD) so I wouldn't be shocked if GW picks him up. But I also wouldn't be shocked if Rutgers gets him because he is DC Assault and Eddie Jordan was involved with them a lot. I'd love Peters at Mason but who knows if that would happen with the coaching situation.

They are definitely still in the mix for him, hope he comes to his senses!

Nobody is really sure about Crosby, I saw he might be prepping. UNCG was also getting an official with him. Fairly certain the ship has sailed and Mason is trying to get a SG to replace Anali (Alexander Gorski for example)

You really think a new AD hired by our President is going to be a Hewitt fan?

If we win 30 games and get to the Elite 8 next year, sure. What AD wouldn't? It was hypothetical.

More than likely we are going to suck, and our AD is going to fire Paul Hewitt and bring in his own guy.

Why? Because we're finally rid of all those Larranaga recruits that were holding us back. Paul Ball 2.0 is a go - full speed ahead and Run the System!

I don't think the recruits from Larranaga was that big of a problem. Bryon Allen and Sherrod Wright both did the best they could to play well under Hewitt's system. It was the other players who did not play up to thier potential and still had trouble fitting into Hewitt's system. The hope here is that moving to the A10 will force Mason to start recruiting more athletic players. Then again when Mason was still in the CAA, including a super weak CAA from last season, we still could not make a bid into a NIT or NCAA. Which is why many of us including myself still have doubts having higher talent will fix the issue.

In my opinion Hewitt should still keep the basic foundation of his system but make some tweaks to it. Throughout the season, I would often see 3 or 4 players on the court who don't have the ball stand around and depend on the ball handler to single handedly do something. As a result Byron Allen or Sherrod Wright will often do too much and turnover the ball. This stagnation is a problem I have with Hewitt's system. The players without the ball aren't doing much to create a better situation for themselves or for the ball handler to get better shots.

People are getting really negative with this "why would anyone want to come here???" talk. WTF? There are a ton of reasons why someone would want to come here.

With transfers becoming more and more frequent I think it's a testament to the program (the PROGRAM, not necessarily the coach) that we've had very few transfers in the last few years. If things were bad internally, you could have easily seen Bryan and/or Sherrod go try and pull a Luke and bid for a spot on a big time roster.

I like getting a pass into the big man. I think every guard looks for his bigs to make the game a little easier for them up top. When you don't pass into the post, the defense targets the guards with full attention. And thus you have 5 guys playing defense straight up daring our 5 guys to do something, which they did, and the results were many many losses. Hopefully, next year Royal can be a low post threat and loosen it up for the guards up top.

If our guards learned how to make an entry pass maybe. There were a lot of times our post players got position but our guards "couldn't get it to him" for one reason or another. I think hesitation to make the pass has been a major issue in general. How often did you see Holloway get open off a screen or a curl and no one got him the ball in time?

I saw same issue watching ga tech games.

Devonte Graham was just let out of his LOI from App. State. Highly touted 2014 PG. No way we sign him, sounds like some big boys will be after his services.

Georgia Tech, Florida State, NC State , and Xavier are after him. Going to have to agree. If we do get John Crosby then not getting Devonte Graham will quickly be forgotten.

Pretty much the way I see it:
Mason's main need is a PG, if we can't get a PG then the next best option would be a PF/C.

Obviously Maryland has two 4 star SG transferring ---Mason could target, but the roster is completely loaded with SG/SF players and swingmen. Vaughn Gray, Therence Mayimba, Eric Lockett, and Isaiah Jackson. Don't forget Patrick Holloway our sharpshooter specialist at the SG. Jalen Jenkins is a PF/SF but could be placed back into SF with Julian Royal ready to go next season.

Getting another SG even if he is a 4 star would be excessive. 4 players who can play SG is more than sufficient. Hopefully Hewitt is not on the golf course but instead looking for a Marquise Moore type of player that can also shoot real well.
