A10 Teams to Post Season Tournaments???

Many more of you blamed Hewitt, Hewitt, and Hewitt as the top 3 reasons for your apathy (you know who you are).

Guilty, guilty, and guilty. It got us nothing in the short term and nothing in the long term. The only thing it did was inflate the number of wins we got that season, I think it ended up at 23. If we ended the season after the CAAT we'd of wound up at 19. Gotta get above that 20!

If nearly got us a CBI championship! How many schools can say that they've won any tournament?

It was more home games to watch and support our boys in green n' gold. Are you telling me that attending Mason Madness is any more useful than attending a third-rate post-season tournament? At least real games were played against real D1 opponents.

I am all for any post season tournament, but don't hang a banner if we win. haha

But we don't have to pay $75,000 to host Mason Madness. The point is losing in the finals of the CBI tournament to Santa Clara in front of 1000 people at the EBA didn't do us any long term good. Now, had we made the post season the next year or the next I would be singing a different tune.

With that said, for *this team* and at this time in the program I think it would be wise to play in the CBI this year. Right now we are on an upward trajectory. In Hewitt's second year we were on a downward trajectory.

We're not talking $ & ¢, we're talking usefulness. Regardless of the perceived trajectory of the team, playing in any tournament is an opportunity to improve. The sentiment was there even though (in hind sight) the long term results were not. Mason Madness is a pre-season pep rally. How useful is that? And if one believes that there are no costs involved for Mason Madness, well...

I just like the atmosphere of going to a game, the crowd, the cheering, getting behind my team... That game in the RAC was a total blast. Too bad you missed it (or poo-pooed your way though it if you did attend).

I loved the game at the RAC, but I also think it's embarrassing we couldn't get 6,000+ people into EBA for a Friday night postseason championship game.

No chance you'd get that many people for a CBI championship game. The casual fan could give zero f***s. Let's be honest, these tournaments aren't meant to generate fan excitement, as much as the marketing folks push it that way. For a young team like ours, it's about player and team development.

I think any post season experience would be good for the team but we need to balance that with just how worn out they are at season's end.

Attendance for the 2013 CBI Finals:

Game 1: 1,154 - Santa Clara's Leavey Center (capacity 4,700)
Game 2: 1,280 - RAC Gym
Game 3: 2,440 - EBA

The cost for hosting a semifinal is $75,000. I'm not sure about the final, but if 2,440 paid $20/ticket that's $48,800. So the game just cost $26,000, before concessions and selling advertisements/vendors in the concourse. When you look at it from that perspective it's not too awful financially to do.

That's all before you pay operating costs.
