Not sure who these guys are, but I don’t think they know as much about Mason as they think they do. Wtf are they talking about regarding Jordan Miller? I don’t recall him looking that “bad” at times.
two Dayton guys I think. And yikes this even left me being a homer with how wrong they were about almost everything. The other teams reviews left a lot to be desired as well. Not a very good podcast

Motion offense gives the players a ton of freedom to be creative on and off the ball. It’s not like Dave is one of those coaches who has to call a set play and kill the shot clock micromanaging every possession. He even lets the guys run when the opportunity is there.

What offense would you prefer we run?
sorry Jim I forgot to respond.. but I actually agree with @GMUgemini and say if we run a motion offense we should at least run one that moves. I have faith it will be better with Kier and without Otis and Reuter (love Otis but damn sometimes he stopped the offense for 20 secs at a time to dribble).

Having two competent "real bigs" that could play together would make this game of basketball so easy for Kier and Javon... but we refuse to do so yet also refuse to play our best athletes in position. that is what puzzles me because it should be either/or not both

Looks like we got a new 6'11" kid, speculation of AJ playing the 4 might explode these boards!

Chance Konnor
https://gomason.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5712

He played very little in tonight's open practice. Must be a walk-on. He is every bit of 6' 11".

And indeed, both Calixte and AJ were on the floor on the same "team" for most of the 30 minute intra-squad scrimmage. Starting lineup: Hartwell, Greene, Miller, AJ, and (once he did his stretching exercises) Calixte, who was a little late getting there (coming from class, maybe?).

I'm no expert, but it looks like he could make a living doing "clean up" work by getting rebounds and second chance points.

He doesn't look as stiff as I expected. Who knows.
According to the Youtube Bio, Chance ”just retuning to basketball after two year injury rehabilitation (from pitching injury) and 8" of growth."

He was only 6-9 in the video and grew another 2 inches!

Who knows, he might be another under the radar type player. He might have been scouted if it weren’t for the two-year rehab. If nothing else, he will be a big body in practice.

A10 Ken Pom... both the Paulsen lovers and haters can both agree KenPom is the best to do it. has us 9th.... Not good if accurate. Ken Pom had us 8th last year and we came in 5th so maybe the computer algorithm doesn't factor in the Doc Nix and the Green machine. Other than switching UMASS and Fordham I think this is pretty accurate to me..

A-10 KENPOM RANKINGS!!!
23. vcu
57. Dayton
61. Davidson
83. Rhode Island
93. Richmond
109. Duquesne
127. Saint Bonaventure
141. Saint Louis
155. George Mason
193. Fordham
211. George Washington
216. Saint Joseph’s
218. La Salle

Preseason KenPom is meaningless. The math doesn’t start to matter until each team has played enough games to input data ... it’s not even a particularly educated guess at this point.

it factors in everything except incoming freshman (thus UMASS being so low)... everything else is reasonably accurate... we also have no impact freshman so regression wise we should be close to this after first couple weeks.

kencom predicting we finish exactly where we finished last season via slightly worse offense and slightly better defense. That’s probably reasonable.

I am not sure why everyone is so doom and gloom with this team this year. Yes the A10 will be way better, I get it.

Otis was pre-season first team all A10 last year, and didn't even make any of the teams. Reuter was pathetic, and Boyd was injured/had an off year last year.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

This year, we get Hartwell who had a summer to hone his craft as the new PG, Greene has a chance to develop as an all-around scorer after falling flat in conference play, and we get Mar back which will be huge.

Mar basically had a lost year last year. He started stone cold, and then went down by the first conference game. Had we had Mar all season, we win a few more games.

Miller, Wilson, Calixte, Mar, Kier and Greene will be the backbone of this team.

We will probably only have a 8-man rotation for most of the season and I'm ok with that. I felt at times last year, we maybe went too deep, and we lost the first several games by going too deep. Shorter bench, and more productivity out of everyone, I'm hopeful for a top 6 finish.

several teams that finished above us last year had shorter benches. Difference, though, is they had game changing players on the team who won games for their teams they had no business winning otherwise. There is a question of if we have someone of that elite level who could will us a game or two we have no business of winning (Kier? can Miller make that jump?)

To counter: Every PG in the A10 had the summer to hone in on their craft, whether they're a new PG or returning PG.

Every player in the A10 has a chance to develop as an all around scorer.

We get Mar back but every team is likely getting somebody back

I agree on the shorter bench, more opportunity for PT and should help players get in a rhythm. Players won't have to worry about being on a short leash. Will the shorter bench backfire at the end of the season because everybody's gassed as well, absolutely. Top 6 is reasonable, top 8 is even more reasonable.
