While that post is over a year old, I'll still absolutely stand by it. Pablo, maybe you're taking it too personally, but I'd bet today plenty of Mason fans would agree in retrospect that they're happier to have had a terrible year and a new coach then they would have been with a mediocre year and Hewitt back on the sidelines. Heck, I might fall into that boat looking back.

You posted about a possible 6th place finish last season. Is this what you are now calling a "mediocre year"? If so, who prefers Hewitt be fired after a terrible year than watching the Patriots finish in 6th place in the A10 last season?

CBS Sportsline previews the A10 and picks league standings. Out of 7 rankers, 5 pick us 13th, the other 2 pick us 14th.

"Overall, the A-10 is trying to keep up with an ascension pattern. Since the major realignment took hold starting in 2012-13 (vcu and Butler joined the A-10), the league was ninth ... then eighth ... then seventh in KenPom (last season). Could No. 6 be realistic this year? In fact, yes. Anyone who definitively says otherwise is ignoring the real possibility the SEC fails to match the hype this season or that the Big East is guaranteed to be better than the A-10.

"The conference has averaged four bids to the NCAAs in the past five years. Projecting ahead, it seems likely four teams make it to next March's Big Dance, and five is absolutely in the equation."

UMass tied for 6th last year. They were 10-8 and 17-15 overall. That is sort of mediocre in my opinion. Sorry to beat this dead horse. Agreed we're far better looking forward then back.

There was a 3-way tie for 6th place, so you picked the team with the worst overall record to prove your point. What was the overall records for the other teams tied for 6th including GW which was the 6th seed in the A10 tourney?

And, any of those teams' record would have been a significant improvement for the Patriots.

If one random 6th place finish would have meant an extension for Hewitt....

finish the sentence on your own.

My optimism means that we turn the ship around and win possibly 15 games which would be huge in my book. I am more interested in seeing a competent program be established this year than anything else.

And yes that makes me happy and excited.
