Watched Mason So this morning play for Team Melo vs Team Thrill from a couple weeks ago. Both teams have a lot of DI guys, so it was a good one to watch. So is the starting PG for Melo and plays a bunch.
Biggest takeaway for me was So’s ball handling. He’s a true PG with a great handle and a pretty quick first step. He’s a pass first guy that gets everyone involved. He didn’t shoot great in this game from 3, but he can beat his man off the dribble and hit a couple floaters in the lane. He did well in both settled offense and unsettled situations. He’s got good size. I believe he hit all of his free throws, including two with :06 left in a one possession game. I didn’t keep any stats.
So started at O’Connell, transferred to St Stephens St Agnes, and now will be at DeMatha. His coach at St Stephens St Agnes is taking over at DeMatha, so So is following him. His dad has a law firm in Fairfax, so he’s truly a local guy.

Great recap, @dr. gunnie - I only watched a few minutes of tape and noticed he was quick and a lefty shooter. I think it was old though.
His offer sheet doesn’t appear to be impressive at the moment, but I suspect this is the type of kid who is expected to have a big summer and have offers piling in.

If Mason So joins the team, I am going to have great difficulty reading these boards in the future. I am already having trouble reading some of the posts at first glance and have to go back and figure out if we are talking about Mason the team, Mason the player using So as a last name or as an adverb/adjective/conjunction/interjection/etc. We will definitely need to give him a nickname to keep my sanity.
I think in some of the vids I’ve heard people cheering for “Mase”, so we might have to go with that.

I'm still disappointed that we never found a player named Gold to start alongside Javon, so that we could have lots of posts about Green(e) and Gold.

How do you turn down a full scholarship to Stanford?!?
I dunno, but I knew a girl in HS who turned down Princeton for University of Puget Sound. Princeton offered her a field hockey scholarship, but she chose to play soccer on scholarship elsewhere. The reasons abound and astound, but the decisions are personal.
Pitt just got a commitment from 2022 4/5 star PG Dior Johnson. Not sure if that impacts Carrington's decision but it seems like that might cut into his playing time, at least at the point.
My understanding is that Carrington plays more of a combo guard so it probably wouldn’t impact anything.
Also, Capel is coaching for his job, so there is always a chance a guy like Carrington hits the portal next March too. Of course he could hit the portal regardless of whether Capel keeps his job too.

The fact that Pitt sucks and is the ACC's doormat every year since 2015 and haven't had a winning record since then doesn't really support 247's case on why he would go there..... to try and turn them around.... good luck kid.

Not sure why he’d have to play point guard with Devin Dinkins being the rising sophomore at that spot.
