Walton Earns Third Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Honor - George Mason University Athletics

Sophomore Zahirah Walton has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the third time in her career and for the second-straight week, announced by the league

"Walton's honor marks the fifth-straight and sixth overall Rookie of the Week honor for the Patriots this season, as she already earned it on Dec. 26 and Jan. 15 and freshman Kennedy Harris has earned it three times.

Walton contributed across the board in the Patriots' 2-0 week as Mason downed Saint Louis at home and UMass on the road, both by over 20-point margins. Against SLU, Walton scored a team-high 21 points on a career-high nine field goals with a career-best two assists and five steals. She also contributed three rebounds and a block.

Against UMass on the road, the Seattle, Wash. native scored 14 points to go with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Overall for the week, she averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 2.0 assists, shot 59.1% from the field and went 100% (8-8) from the free throw line."

George Mason and George Washington will matchup in a classic rivalry game for the 46th time in program history on Wednesday, and for the first of two times this season. The Revolutionaries hold a 30-15 record over Mason, including 18-5 in Atlantic 10 contests. The Georges have split the last four meetings, with both teams winning at home. How many 20-plus win seasons do the Patriots have in their 50 years of the program?

Answer: Five.

The Green & Gold have five years of 20 wins or more, last happening in 2017-18 when the Patriots set a program record with 24 wins.

Mason won 21 games in 1981-82, 1987-88, 1993-94 and 2000-01.

Evidently, the A10 has a requirement that each women's team have one weekday game start in the middle of the day on a weekday. I understand correctly, the intent is to allow local schools to do field trips to the games.

Funny note, evidently a large number of the teams made their game against GW the game last season so a good number of their games were at this time.
