Totally forgot my convo with Andy Ruge up at Brooklyn this past year, we discussed a lot of stuff Mason struggled with and one was Homecoming. Asked if they ever explored moving it to Fall and they did like 10+ years ago when Hewitt was coaching.

He basically said the logistics to pull it off wasn't ideal due mainly to attendance reasons.... he mentioned they have to compete with college football and other outside things/events/Thanksgiving breaks/etc. that could distract from getting the most fans to a game and also the student and alumni planning committees weren't onboard - Spring gives them much more time to plan and execute schedules and agendas from an office and logistical standpoint to prepare for this event - it is a week long event, not just one game. Full staff doesn't report until August and that's not enough time to plan such a big event as homecoming in 2-3 months. He laughed and said no one does work in the summer so it would be tough to pull off a Fall Homecoming.

Would be cool but they would need probably need a year to plan if they did decide to move it.... I mean this is Mason after all gentlemen. ;)

Yet football schools are able to do it in the fall…

Do any of you just wish you could stop caring about Mason lol. I hate the administrations excuse making attitude.

We all do wish the excuses would end. For years we couldn’t have a big screen because of the EBA roof but somehow magically they figured it out. I truly don’t get a lot of things either.

If someone wanted Homecoming in the Fall, they’d make it in the Fall. But that person has to be someone who can make that decision. 20 of us on a message board don’t have that power lol. Marvin would have to influence the idea and help make that call. I suspect changing Homecoming isn’t top of mind, but perhaps at some point someone can throw the idea to him.

Enough noise has to be created to make them at least initially consider the idea/put it on their radar.

With basketball season starting, many on here will have opportunities to say hi to Marvin - when we do we need to consistently mention the idea (in addition to sending emails, etc.)

Mason's allotment from UT is in section 311 and are $12. They play in a very large arena so 311 is nosebleeds. Much better options for tickets via resale on stub hub, etc.
Good to know, thank you.

Likely unofficial pregame spot will be Saloon 16 (Peyton Manning's bar in the Graduate Hotel, short walk to arena) at 5pm when they open.

I've reached out to see if the school/Patriot club is setting up anything official, but I'm assuming we won't have enough people attending to make it happen.

FYI

For those of you who get all worked up about brands and logos, I noticed this in The George newsletter today:

"New brand for Mason? See a sneak peek of options and give your feedback
Get a possible glimpse of the future. The Office of University Branding is inviting the university community for a look at two possible final logo designs for George Mason University. As we look at new branding options, we want to hear how you think each design symbolizes the identity of this great university. This is an in-person-only opportunity, so come to Dewberry Hall in the Johnson Center at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, for a brief overview of the brand work that has led to this, and get a look at two final possibilities. Light refreshments will be served, and feedback will be welcomed."

Yeah, wtf is that about. Reminds me of Chapter 1 of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy:

“But the plans were on display…”
“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”
“That’s the display department.”
“With a flashlight.”
“Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”
“So had the stairs.”
“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”
