Actually, I believe KE said we would play Coppin St on the latest #TalkWithUS, so that's game 12, and we have one more that should come out today.
Coppin schedule has
11/8 @Georgetown
11/22 @Towson

GMU schedule has
11/11 Longwood
11/18 @Holiday Tournament

I predict one of those last 2 games occurs on 11/14

Are we not playing JMU this year?
i was thinking the same
but haven't seen it mentioned recently
Does anyone know if last year's game was the start of a home and away contract or the end of one?

At least we should win a lot at home

On the Mason Basketball Instagram/Twitter, they have Ticket, Saquan, Victor Bailey, Josh, and DeVon on the post. That's probably our Starting 5.

I wish we would play 1 or 2 more P5 teams instead of a team like Coppin State or Queens.

I’m sure they tried. Kim even said on the last podcast episode that Mason is stuck in the middle for now — we don’t suck so we’re not viewed as an easy win, but we’re not good enough that a P5 coach can schedule us without the risk of taking a dreaded “bad loss.”

We’d all like the schedule to be flashier, but this is what happens when you have been utterly irrelevant for more than a decade.

Ok gotcha, I understand.

I'm not even sure I'll go to the Coppin State or Queens games, because seeing our guys probably win by 15+ just seems like a waste of time. I think I will save my money for our home conference games.

My .02-C+ with chance to become a B if schools pan out better than last year and if Mason gets some combination of BC/Belmont/Wyoming and avoids Howard and Tarelton State.

Highlights of the home schedule:

Toledo and Hofstra. Why? Because those are two quality basketball programs. Those two are going to be good matchups and fun to watch. I think Hofstra should have been a h/h.

Lowlights of the home schedule:

American, Coppin State, UMES. Buy games that cannot be lost at any cost. We'll be lucky if any of these teams have a NET better than 250.

Meh parts of the home schedule

Queens, Longwood. Queens is a huge risk since they are new to D1, and while they were historically a good D2 program, who knows if they'll have a learning curve. Longwood was a good team last year, but who knows if they'll be good this year. Its a half decent home opener, but not very exciting.

Rest of the schedule:

Key games:

Boston College and Tulane. Not because these are such high quality programs but these will only help the program and league NET. In addition, if Mason beats BC, they'll most likely get Belmont and maybe Wyoming. If they lose, they most likely get Tartelton state which would be another lowlight and crush our OOC ranking. Tulane isn't a great name but theyl'l probably be around top 100 NET so that is a good neutral game.

Meh but important

Auburn- I don't expect Mason to win, but hopefully they can be competitive.
ODU- Not a great matchup but an old rivalry and one that I would much prefer Mason to not lose. ODU was 201 in NET last year, so if they suck again, this home and home doesn't really provide much benefit to Mason.

BC is definitely the most important game on the schedule. If they’re even decent in the ACC a win would go a long way for our computer numbers and as you noted, losing sets us up for Tarleton State (whatever the F that is) and a huge missed opportunity.

Agree with everyone on Tarleton State, however they did play Kansas tough for over a half (were down by only 6 early in the 2nd) and were beating Gonzaga early in the 2nd half last year. Shouldn't matter when we beat BC but you can't sleep on teams like that.

"Tartelton state" - each year there is at least one college I've never heard of that we play or is in the same pre-season tournament.

There was tons of talk about Tarleton State during the mass exodus out of the AAC last season and the subsequent domino effects down conference.

GIVING DAY 2023
My Coppin Story

Last season I went to the Coppin at Howard Game
i sat behind the Coppin Bench
Sitting behind me were Juan Dixon's in-laws
His mother in law was on the Morgan State Biz School faculty when i was on the Engineering School Faculty from 88-90
His father in law is a now retired Baltimore Dentist

So Juan Dixon's wife and 2 kids come and sit in my row
5 minutes later - while i am trying t watch the game - a line of people start coming up and asking to take a photo with her
I have no idea who she is except for JD's wife and her parent's daughter
So she apologizes for me having to get up and walk by me to get to the aisle multiple times

So i just ask her, are you someone famous?
She says "I am on a TV show"
So I ask which one?
She says "Housewives of the Potomac"
So I apologize for not knowing who she is because my TV viewing is pretty much limited to 4 ESPN channels, the other sports channels and the news.
So I promise to go home and watch the show.
I find it on Bravo, watch 1.5 episodes and keep my word.

She is a looker
You will find her behind the Coppin Bench when they play us
I may even sit over there!!!!

BTW Coppin won in an upset

Not only that, but assuming Mason beats BC, they would get Belmont. Other than Howard, Drake Wyoming and Belmont all had better NET than BC last year. If Mason can somehow beat BC and play all the schools other than Tarleton State and Howard, that would be an excellent boost to the non conference.

If they end up with either of the two bottom feeders of Tarleton State and Howard, its going to just be a suck to a very overall meh OOC. Most likely they will end up with 1 of them if they lose to BC and potentially both if they lose 2 games.

It is what it is, because like Kim said and we've all said 100 times, Mason is in purgatory. Not good enough to be a benefit, not bad enough to be a cupcake.

We were a Q2 road game and a Q3 neutral/home game last season, which really wouldn’t be considered a “bad loss” but not considered a good win either.

Become a top 75 team and we are bumped up to a Q1 road and Q2 neutral.

When can we buy tickets for the home games?
you can likely get better seats for individual games from some of the Mason Hoops members who are Season Ticket Holders
