GIVING DAY 2023
Didn't want to make another thread but was thinking about this, this morning.

We all have spoken at length about PG play being the key to success. Obviously its early and we had 2 weaker opponents and 1 strong opponent but so far here are the stats from our 3 point guards:

Polite
23 points (7.7 ppg)
12 assists (4 assists per game)
4 turnovers (1.3 turnovers per game)

Singleton
7 points (2.3 ppg)
6 assists (2 assists per game)
7 turnovers (2.3 turnovers per game)

Dinkins
2 points (1 point a game)
1 turnover (.5 turnovers a game)
1 assist (.5 assists per game)

Obviously super early with Dinkins as he has only played 19 minutes compared to Singleton who has played 34 minutes and Polite who has played 83 minutes.

Based off what I am seeing though, it appears that Polite has really taken the job and been impressive. Singleton's turnover numbers worry me and he also came in yesterday and made 2 quick turnovers. Dinkins missed Friday's game, but it appears that he can provide some backup minutes as the season goes on.

how many open 3 pointers have each of them let up? not sure any of them play a lick of defense. Very clear Saquon is not a PG and Ronnie is the starter and main PG this season though. That much is certainly clear after 3 games.

I don't know how you measure "how many open 3 pointers have been let up".

I will say, that I have been impressed with Ronnie and Devin on the defensive side of the ball. Both of them seem to have good on ball defense skills from what I can recall. Dinkins reminded me a bit of how Corey Edwards used to defend. Obviously its only 3 games for RP and 2 for DD, but I haven't seen anything that makes me cringe. RP was doing well in the Auburn game and I think had some good moments against Longwood and American defensively as well.

No idea about Saquan, he appears to be just depth at the position. At this point hes 3rd string and I'd even feel more comfortable with Cooper or even Bailey playing that role if it comes down to it. Its quite early but the early returns are not impressive with him.

A couple things about Ronnie I think are really important:

- Still needs a ton of polish on his game but his one superpower, the probing dribble, is an incredible asset for a big guard like him to have. He gets into the paint so easily, and he *keeps his dribble* in the paint, and keeps his eyes up looking for options, without turning it over. There are not a lot of guards that do that so easily. That of course has led to him getting buckets around the rim, and getting into the paint and finding cutters.

- Prior to this year I don't think I would've said he was a high IQ player but he's been showing flashes of very intelligent play. He made a really nice cut to get to the rim on a pass from Josh - Josh looked at him for a corner 3, the defender closed out anticipating a pass, and Ronnie blew by him baseline for an easy catch and layup. Not rocket science but really cool to see how he's been playing off the ball as well.

Generally you'll go broke betting on "this third year guy who's never really shown much is DEFINITELY gonna figure it out this year," but if there's an archetype of a guy who could do it, it's Ronnie. Public school player who needed time to acclimate to D1, first two offseasons were injury riddled and goofed due to covid, then he went through a coaching change and is learning a new system. Now he's healthy and getting minutes and winning the job decisively. Very cool to see. #TeamRonnie

very well said and much more articulately than me... I would have just said he's my favorite player and I hope he kills sleeperpick and/or 81 but apparently the tech overlords consider that a "personal attack" these days

Maybe if I had just left out 81 and said "killed sleeperpick twice" the post would not have been so controversial

he has played against three very weak PGs so far and has played well defensively. Still shoots like a girl IMO although he has hit more 3's this year than it seems he did the entirety of last year so no knocking that. 1-3 from the charity stripe will be improving hopefully as well.

I would never report you regardless so keep going at me because you are hilarious and clever with it rather than moving the goal posts like others do. #freejollay. At least unlike your other time in jail you can be around elementary schools immediately

We also very clearly don't have any competition at the position until Dinkins gets more comfortable because Singleton is sure as hell #NOTAPG even though CKE and our resident experts insisted he was. I like Saquon but not at the PG spot with the lineups CKE put him around the last couple games

Just so you know - we received complaints about that post, and because it broke the rules, there had to be a suspension. Generally speaking, posting here about violent acts (real or made up) is bad. We also don't want any of this to reflect on any of the student-athletes, even if it's not real.

well clearly I dont want my favorite player to commit a serious crime against an anonymous tool on a message board that would send him and probably me to jail and leave us without a point guard and the Miami thread unattended

I swear freedom of speech is so complicated. As my old friend Lee used to say you can say sperm. you can say gurgling. you can say butt. you can say whore, but the second you call someone a "[redacted, per rule #5]" there's a problem

I dont get it but i will submit to your iron rule

How do we complain about someone else's complaint so we can get that person banned?

No need, I'm banning myself.

Hi Everyone,

“Anonymous Tool” here. My name is Bob Allen. I’m 63 years old. I spent my entire adult life in the service of kids. I was an elementary school teacher, middle school teacher, high school basketball coach, and middle school AP during a career that spanned 34 years with FCPS.

I have spent the past 20 months of my life fighting cancer, a battle that has included 2 surgeries. The last was on January 10, 2022. I scheduled the 2nd surgery so that I would have enough time between home games to recover. 12 days after my surgery I hobbled, albeit very slowly, into EBA to watch my beloved Patriots play ball. Long term prognosis? TBD. Still waiting.

On the boards I am @Patriotsince81. I saw my first Mason game a kid in 1974. I wouldn’t be far off if I said that I’ve seen more games than anyone on this board. I’ve lived through the highs and lows. I’ve marveled at the great victories, and suffered through far too any poor losses and seasons. No one has been more passionate about Mason basketball than myself.

I believe in being polite and respectful to everyone, regardless of the situation. I would NEVER condone any suggestion or act of violence toward anyone. I was the one that reported Jollay because I felt his comment was beyond what any reasonable human would make. Based on the likes that he has received it is obvious that many/most of you think it’s okay to wish death on another. Free speech? FU. Disappointed in some of you to be honest, but you don’t seem to give a sh&t.

So to all of you that support the likes of Jollay and think that being rude, disrespectful, and making threats wishing death on another is acceptable, I encourage you to re-evaluate your life and beliefs. When I made the complaint to @HoopsAdmin, his response was to threaten me and ban me for giving him, the almighty, an ultimatum.

I realize that this post will most likely be deleted before most have had a chance to read it. Well, that’s life. I can no longer be part of a community that does not value life, respect others, and believe in basic human dignity. I wish you all well. When I said that to @HoopsAdmin in my message I think he thought I was telling him to F off. Nope, I genuinely wish everyone health and happiness. I harbor no ill will toward anyone. Life is just too “F”ing short.

I’m out.

If you're still there, I'd like to respond. And even if you're not, here are my thoughts:
First, I've got you by two years. I'm 65. May be the oldest one on here. Dunno. But you have me by one year on first game attended. My first was 1975.
As for the comments on this site, most everyone here remembers that I didn't get off to a very welcoming start. I pointed out some things that to me were crude and offensive. Some seemed to be respectful of that, and commented as such, but for the most part I was skewered and told that if I didn't like the site I could leave. Others were kind enough to tell me to hang in there, not take it personally, and fire back if I wanted to. When I mentioned the tenor of Federal Baseball and the rules for that site, I was told it was a boring (for lack of a
better word and other descriptors) site. I decided to try to go along to get along, and for the most part, it worked. But it doesn't seem like it takes much from me to get criticized and "disliked." I have often thought about leaving. To me, the constant references to drunkeness, sexual innuendo, references to bodily functions, and Xed out curse words are offensive and childish. I believe the rules should be much tighter than they are.
I will not respond to this post, as I know what's coming. If I am kicked off, so be it. I enjoy most of the content and it keeps me much more informed than any other site. I value that. Perhaps I'll just lurk.

I honestly don’t want to get pulled into this but I think it’s too important to not remind folks.

As much as rules have tightened not everyone will take things the same way. Some more sensitive than others. And that’s okay. There is room for everyone here who wants to be here and the last thing I want to see is valued contributors stop contributing.

However, when someone complains or gives feedback I think it’s important that we as admins and mods take it seriously. To me I feel we have improved and focused more on discussion rather than pissfest personal attacks and name calling.

I encourage folks to remember that everyone has different outlooks on life.

If anyone has specific feedback or concerns please send me a direct message (or many of you can text me) and we can talk more. If you don’t think a post is appropriate or goes against the rules please report it. We aren’t perfect and want the site to be as positive an experience as it can be for all mason fans.

Back to basketball.

Hang in there. I’m a 26 year survivor of stage 4, non-hodgkins lymphoma. I attended games sans hair…not a good look but the games helped me keep things as normal as could be given the circumstances.

Feel free to reach out if you feel the need. It’s a war.

To continue with the sharing session, as a GDI I've always felt a bit of a fraternity gatekeeping/Greek inner circle type of vibe from the boards, like there's an exception that if you are/were Greek, you can get away with a lot more with saying things. It's not a dealbreaker, but something I've noticed.
