One last Rick Flair Woooooooooo for Hewitt being gone! Now it's time to look towards the future. A future that not only I'm excited for but Pikapppatri8 and the rest of us here at Mason Hoops seem to be excited for as well made obvious on thread: "Am I Wrong to Be a Little Excited for This Season?"

My buddy Jonesy, who is lurking somewhere on this forum, and I love making season predictions. Since Mason Madness has happened, it's now officially pre-season right?

We don't have a single player who has logged Division 1 minutes under a coach other than the unmentionable. I'm not making a single prediction about either the team or any of the players, and hope that a lot of these young men, who once had promising college careers ahead of them, can be salvaged for their sakes and ours.

I'm betting my house on the under for the cheerleaders, I'm staying 1,000 miles away from any bet on sweeping vcu and I'm puzzled why Holloway will be the fans' least favorite player.

I think our overall record is going to be a little better than 15-14 just because the OOC is so soft. But overall not an awful job.

I'm guessing due to Patrick's streaking shooting. He can, at times, be very frustrating to watch when he's cold.

Also, Shevon will lead in points.

BOLD PREDICTION: we will have 4 players average over 10 pts. (kinda like the Coach L days)
Shevon, JJ, PH, MM- all around 10-13ppg

Don't see Jalen Jenkins beating Shevon on minutes either. JJ seemed to have a problem with picking up tacky fouls and having to sit quite a bit due to that fact. Also we have more depth at the 4 than we do at the 5.

Last season, Shevon Thompson played in all 31 games and led the team in total minutes played (936) while averaging 30.2 mpg. Marquise Moore missed 2 games due to an injury and was second in total minutes played (879) while averaging a team-high 30.3 mpg. Jalen Jenkins played in all 31 games, totaling 692 minutes played (22.3 mpg).

Coach Paulsen indicated at the A10 Media Day that Shevon is healthier than he was last season.

Prediction: Holloway will still give up wide open looks on the perimeter while on defense.

We have 31 games on the schedule. I think predicting 2 cancellations is a little extreme.

My apologies, I missed one game and the other is TBD. Either way, I think we are going to finish right around 500 on the positive side.

As far as Patrick Holloway, does anyone like him? His shot is too flat and he doesn't have a straight follow through forcing his ball to bounce weird off the rim.

I think the major difference in JJ's production will be due to him returning to his natural position. He picked up a lot of bad fouls trying to guard wing players in open space. That's not his gig. Shevon will break down towards the end of the season from general wear and tear and I believe JJ will prove to be too critical to our success to take out.

I think it may be that many on the boards don't like Holloway's shot selection and lack of offensive efficiency. His defensive efforts have also been suspect. I think his numbers for the year sum it up. He only made 39% of his shots for the year. On top of that Patrick led the team in shots taken with 277 in only 712 minutes. He pretty much shot it whenever he touched it. Shevon on the other hand was a model of efficiency making 55.5% of his 272 shots in 936 minutes.

FWIW, of any player on the roster, I would think that Holloway would benefit most from coach Paulsen's offensive system.

He's a guy without a great handle or athleticism who struggles to get his own shot, and consequently has ended up taking (and, yes, missing) some tough/bad shots. Virus' offense was much more "go get em", while Paulsen's reputation is as a guy who runs a pass heavy motion offense which should benefit catch and shoot guys (like Holloway) because it works to get them clean, open looks.

While it may be harder to hide Holloway on defense becuase of Paulsen's strict man to man principles, it wouldn't surprise me a bit to see him put up a surprisingly good senior year.

The Patriots will play a minimum of 32 games this season, including at least one A10 tourney game.

Holloway will be the leading scorer. I told him to avg 20 at the meet and greet and he said ok.

Book it!

Interestingly, the last Patriot to average 20 ppg in a season (minimum 10 games) was also a former All-Met POY; i.e., Nate Langley.

First qtr of season everyone gets a pass. After that, If DP cant unmind f**k the returning players, he will have to move forward without them. I predict Royal will be one of the first.
